Default Winter Tires, help

Hey guys,
I need help to get winter tires.
What size should i go for?
I want that goodyear Nordic or Michelin X-Ice 3, but i prefer Nordic for the price.
My stock tires are 18", and i want my winter tire 17".
Can anyone tell me what size am i looking for?
Or 16" even better? im not sure.

When i got to Canadiantire web, it says 215/55R17 on the michelin.. but i look for 215/55R17 on the nordic, it says doesnt fit the car.

Thanks for the help

Probably a glitch in the website. 215/55 is pretty much the same across the board.
It will vary by a couple mm in actual width, but should be enough to make much of a difference.

Personally I like Bridgestone Blizzaks but I guess I'm impartial.

I run 215/55R17 Nokian WRH tire. Now, I'm in Pennsylvania, not Canada. I find these tires performed well in a couple big snowstorms, while still delivering surprising fuel economy and dry handling. I had a V6 Accord, and had 205/60R16 Nokian WRH and those also performed well. To be honest I did not detect a difference between the 16" and 17". I only got stuck once, and it was on a mud road in a state park that I did not belong on to begin with. Both tires were loud compared to stock.

BUT if I lived where you do, I'd strongly consider 16" anyway!! Mid-Atlantic you can get away with the 17's just fine.

I don't think the Limited or SE can go to a 16" wheel due to suspension. I went with 17" for that reason, and also because one of my local dealers had some 17" Azera wheels dirt cheap that me the Sonata specifications.

You can check the wheel size at Tire Rack.

I've got 215/55/16 Michellin X-Ice and they work great. The suspension on a GLS is different that then the limiteds or se's but you won't have any issues running with a 16" tire for the winter. I plan to use my 16" steel wheels this winter on my '13 turbo limited.

I think 16" is still the dealer's winter wheel/tire combo of choice for the Sonata. I have 215/60r16 on my '11 with no issues.

I can't comment on the Nordic, but I have an older set of Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice; excellent wear and traction but balancing is a PITA even after a roadforce balance.

I keep waiting for these to wear out so I can get another set, but that might take another 10 years. I think I may just have to get rid of these and go with another - I'm not sure which brand it would be but I can tell you it won't be Goodyear.

I got mine off craigslist. You'd be surprised what you can find on there for very reasonable. Honda Accord/ TSX all use the same lug pattern 5x114 and *usually* the offsets work. Seems like many TSX drivers bought winter wheels because their stock tire is useless in snow too. Ford Fusion is another direct fit.

Speaking of that, if anyone wants two cheap like-new Optimo's... PM me.
