I haven't driven the new Camry, but personally the few tenths of a second the Camry may have over my 2.0t are meaningless. I also STRONGLY believe that some decent high performance tires on a Sonata could possibly make a noticeable difference in straight line acceleration. The factory all seasons aren't horrible, but are far from a true performance tire. As far as off the line acceleration and lag, I am very impressed with the 2.0T. In fact I'd say it has better low end power, and less lag than any turbo car I've ever driven. I also think the traction control on the car, at least with no engine mods, works beautifully, and ultimately should result in very similar and possibly better straight line numbers. I read a recent magazine test of the Sonata with a 2.0T and straight line numbers were actually one tenth of a second faster with the traction control on. The fact that I can easily chirp second gear with traction control on tells me that the ECU/traction control are smart enough to know how to get the power to the ground without significantly effecting straight line performance.

our 2.0 is made for post 60 mph rocket launches...primarily for passing vehicles on highways.... (and launch it does!)
it's not a jet that is supposed to kick-in at 0 like some kids cars. I don't think I've needed nor had the urge to go from 0-60 in a hurry, since I was 17. I will say however, that I often need to get to 80....from 65...in a hurry.......and this car does a fine job of that. Last edited by HarborGrey; 09-17-2012 at 12:24 PM. |

I agree with you on this one. My wifes Rav4 V6 (same as Camry 3.5 but with 5speed auto) smokes my Sonata off the line. Easiest way to explain this is although my Sonata turbo is overall faster over Rav4 V6.. that Toyota V6 just launches harder from idle. Sonata doesn't come alive til 4000rpm. |

I went from the factory-issue Hankook Optimos to Dunlop Direzzas. I mainly got them because they were a lot cheaper than the Optimos. They have a little more road noise but a LOT more grip. It'll still chirp 'em if I stomp on it, but it does seem to hook up better. We'll see how they hold up.
Rolling acceleration, the 2.0T is a beast. My favorite feeling is gradually rolling into the throttle, having the transmission hold the gear and just ride the surge of torque, when most cars would downshift. Anyone else do the same? |

My car always shifts into second way too fast, even with eco and TC turned off. Guess I need to use the paddle shifters. The V6 accord and camry also have better 1/4 mile times, low 14's, so the sonata isnt really leaving them in the dust after 60. |

Just get a tune.. 0-60 5.7sec on my Sonata.. The turbo has so much more potential than the naturally aspirated engines. I mean, while the Sonata 2.0T gains 40+hp and tq on stock a stock setup with the tune, the naturally aspirated 2.4L gained 10hp w/ a tune. lol. Any bolt-ons will add at least twice the performance on the Turbo.
