Does anyone know what Hyundai has done in relation to carbon buildup in GDI engines?

Here some good info from BG in regards to GDI . I have used there BG 44k and BG MOA.

Thats a very good question! Does Hyundai have a problem in the first place? Are these engines too new to know? I can tell you that when I wipe the exhaust tip when Im detailing the car there is a lot of black in there. When I do the same thing to my Chrysler 300C Hemi, its very clean at the exhaust tips. So, what does it look like in our combustion chambers?
I suppose that the Techron will not help? Or will it? Maybe GDI is a whole new monster. Our driving is mostly highway so that may help a little if in fact we are going to have a problem with this. Did the Hyundai engineers incorporate the injector timing that Ford and Cadillac did to reduce the effects of carbon build up? Also what about our crankcase ventilation system? Is our EGR clean or dirty? Dont know.

I think I remember reading something about them putting a dome in the top of the piston, and it was suppose to fix the carbon problem.

At this point I do not know what if anything Hyundai has done to incorporate that ultra precise injector timing that Ford and Cadillac use.
It looks like vehicles in the very near future will operate very precisely by electronic control modules using logic chips. Warranties now become extremely important to cover expensive repairs to all these electronic systems.

I think the piston heads have a donut shaped cavity in them on the GDI engines. The dome (I think) would defeat the purpose of the cavity.

The black soot on your exhaust tips are from the car being turbocharged. All turbo cars do it, GDI or not. It's from the fuel mix being richer to mix with the higher flow of air in the intake manifold. When you come off throttle the pressurized air stops and the fuel mix is rich until the ECU catches up. Rich fuel mix burns black.

Its best to wait and see if this will be a problem but I can attest that the BG fuel line cleaner certain dealerships do is excellent.

That thing got a Hemi??? Yes, our Sonata's do have Hemispherical combustion chambers

As far a carbon buildup, only time will tell... The Theta II is too new of a platform for us to know. But i'm sure Hyundai has addressed this in some novel way, as they have not been known to follow to pack in any of their innovations. Seafoam may help when sucked into the PCV system, but we'd need some before/after pics to quantify the results and then combine them with a suitable interval.
For now i am content to let Hyundai worry about it with the 100k powertrain warranty...

Don't want carbon build up to occur? Drive it hard, not one single sporty car I've ever owned has had carbon build up, I think most of it is due to not "blowing it out" sometimes by regular drivers. Constantly keeping the engine at basically above idle rpm's all the time in commuting doesn't allow the carbon to burn off under higher pressure and temps of the engine running hard.

Don't blow it up or anything, just put it through some paces every now and then.

/\ that probably used to work with non-direct injection engines. Those inject the fuel into the cylinder before the intake valves essentially rinse the valves every time gas comes into the cylinder.

With direct injection, the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber and bypassing the valves on the way in. That's where people are seeing the build up. Driving it hard won't make a difference because of the way the motors are built.

Me, I will start putting in bg product shortly. I found a local dealer who will sell it over the counter and iirc it's around 50 bucks for the moa and 44k.
