I just changed the oil in my car last night for the second time at with the mileage now at 6,200. The first oil change was at 1,300 when I added Mobile 1 5w-40. This time I switched to Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic 5W-20 Motor Oil. However, reading in the manual this morning more closely I noticed that 5w-20 is only recommended on the 2.4 GDI engine and that 5w-30 and 5w-40 on the TDGI.

Any input/thoughts regarding should I continue to run 5w-20 or change it out for 5w-40. What I have read elsewhere implies the engine may not be sufficiently lubricated in warm/hot weather running 5w-20 vs 5w-40.

Should I be concerned?

Thanks,

Thanks,
I would drain that oil out and put what it says should be in there.

Personally I only run 5W-40 in mine, and I wouldn't for a second run anything that's not recommended, especially the light 5W-20.

Whether or not it will cause immediate damage, who knows - probably not. But over time, I don't think it will do the job it's meant to especially in high heat operation of a turbo.

From what Ive read dealerships accidently use 5W-20 in turbos a lot. Your call whether to drain and refill or not. For the $28 it costs for a new jug of Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30 Id probobly go that route.

Mine did their first free oil change with semi-synth 5W-20, and I called them on it. The guy said to me just to make sure I tell them when making my appointment that I want 5W-40. He said they've been using 5W-20 in every car they sell for years with no problems. I've been hemming and hawing on doing a flush and fill instead of waiting until my next change schedule, and still not sure if I should just do it now or not.

Yep they did it to me when I took my car in for an oil change. I had them change it out for the right oil right away.

Where are finding that oil for only $28?

Are you sure it's Pennzoil Ultra cause when I look it up online I find it for $48, kinda hard to imagine it being $28 at Walmart. I don't even think they have it at any Walmart by me either.

Absolutely sure. They sell Pennzoil Platinum also which is $2 less for a 5 quart jug.

Wow I'm jealous now, maybe I can have my Walmart get it sent here so I can get that deal! Doubt that would work though.

Yup I have PU for same price at walmart in morris county. As for as the weight of the oil next change I'm going to 0w-40 read a lot on the bob is the oil guy and it will save engine wear on startup while providing same protection when engine reachs operating temp as 5w-40.
