Default smart key holder

Hi All,

First off, I've recently gotten the 2012 hybrid and I like it A LOT! Now on to my question... I'm currently reading the manual and I came across this "...you can start the engine by inserting the smart key into the smart key holder and pushing the engine start/stop button." I've looked for answers but on this site and each time I see one and check my car, I can't see it. Can anyone please describe where it is in detail?

Thanks in advance.

Its in the center console. If you open it and look towards the front of the car in the box you will see a slot. Put your key in he slot. To remove the key push it forward and then pull out. Hope this helps.

Thanks for answering but I still don't see a slot where it fits. Is it below the nav? top? left? right? If anyone can take pictures, that will probably do it for me. Thank you for your patience.

It's inside the center console between the front seats. If you open the lid and slide your hand down the front side of the storage area, you should feel it.

I guess it's if the push to start button goes bad because when my 12V battery got low I had to open the trunk with
the key to jump start the car. About 2 minutes into the jump start I just pushed the start button and it fired right up.

Dead 12V Battery less than 1 yr old

Inserting the smart key into the smart key holder is useful if the remote fob battery is dead, or the remote has been destroyed (e.g., stepped on accidentally) or shorted (if it was dropped in a water puddle).

In such case, the RFID chip within the remote could be sensed by induction once placed into the holder slot, hence, allowing the User to start the car ignition without a signal from the battary operated remote.
