Rattle And Squeak

I am truly loving my Hybrid Premium Pkg car, except for one thing.

There is a rattle/squeaking noise that comes from somewhere behind me, in the passenger area I am pretty sure. It is hard to track down while I drive and my pregnant wife isn't able to move around the back seat looking for it while I'm driving.

Sometimes I think it is up in the sunroof workings, sometimes on the back platform around the sub enclosure.

It doesn't always happen on rough roads, sometimes just while going around a curve at speed, that's when it sound structural, like it is straining.

Very odd.

Anybody have anything similar?

I'm hoping it is just the headliner not being fully secured in one spot or something. I'm going to ask my dealer to check it if and when the evap sensor part comes in.

I just brought my car in for this this issue and surprise surprise, it is still creaking. The invoice says, "Tech removed and reinstalled cover and lubricate tracks. Tech verified noise remove and reinstalled cover."

I will need to take it back in and try the tightening of the bolts.

Has the noise come back yet to anyone that has had the bolts tightened?

Does anyone know of any TSB or other sources I could point the dealer in the right direction besides printing out some of this forum?

There's a new TSB for this. It supposedly only covers '12 and '13 models. Mine has been in about 5 times since new, each time the re-torque never made it go away and got worse over time. With this most recent TSB (I think superglue is used this time...), it's the best it's been so far. I don't think it's 100% gone but it's probably as good as its going to get.

I'd like to bring my car in to see if they can "fix it" but I'm concerned it being worst later and I don't like techs with dirty hands working with my light colored headliner. I know how I am with my stuff but something others, that work on many cars everyday, aren't as clean and careful.

I've thought about following the TSB info and doing it myself in the Spring.

I 100% agree with this, I told my dealership for the headliner recall (2011 only) and for all the squeak work to please use new or clean gloves! Every time I get more and more oil stains on it!!! I praise my dealership a lot... but for this they just won't listen. They did offer to steam it off but it never comes out completely.

Ok, I'm going to go for it tomorrow. Hopefully it gets fixed and the headliner stays clean. I was thinking today, do any other Hyundais or Kias with the panoramic sunroof have this problem?

I had a rattle/vibration noise in rear left somewhere, so tried to catch the root of the noise by myself inside my car, but failed. So, went to dealer shop and they found it's caused from SOP shock absorber in rear left axle! Replaced it by warranty, but 3 months later the same noise occurred in rear-right side. As a result, I've replaced both side rear axle shock absorbers by warranty.

Bought my 2014 new last July, its got ~12,000 miles on it and the creaking sunroof issue began to surface when the weather got cold about 3 months ago. It's warming up again but I still hear the creaking (though it is reduced). Looks like Hyundai still hasn't figured out how to engineer the pano sunroof properly. The noise drive me batty. At some point in the near future its going in to get it fixed.

Good luck with that... It'll go away for days, weeks, months, even a year but it always came back with my car. The new 2015 non-hybrid's have the new panoramic roof design. It's also on the new Genesis; much better design and supposed to be less squeaky.
I lubricate and condition all seams, weatherstripping, and the sunroof rails with pure silicone grease. It minimizes the squeaking noise to a bearable level.

knock on wood, but I must be lucky. I haven't had any of the noise problems you guys are talking about **yet** lol.
