According to the Hyundaitechinfo website, the VES speaker is mounted inside the driver's side front wheel well. I haven't every really heard it, although my wife has when I passed her while she was standing in the driveway on day. It isn't really loud, not even loud enough to overcome the ambient noise in my office parking garage (I have had several people step out in front of me). But my car drives great, so who cares!

Sorry if it was answered, didnt have time to read through the pages.
The HSH has an electric oil pump with is always running. This way as the ICE engages/disengages oil will always be flowing through the system. It also has an electric power steeing pump, not sure however if that constantly runs or only when the wheel is turned. So the sound you hear is at least the EOP. |

I did finally hear the VES speaker the other evening. I was in a drive-through line to pick up dinner, and as I pulled forward I could distinctly hear the speaker cut in and out. Doesn't sound much like a car noise to me, maybe more of a bad wheel bearing at moderate speed! But it does make noise, and it seems to start as soon as the car starts rolling, cutting off when the car comes to a stop.

My car makes no noise at all when stopped in EV. Zero. No artificial speaker noise to make other people know my car is on.
I honestly think that sort of 'safety feature' that some hybrids have is downright idiotic. If people both driving and not driving would pay more attention to what's going on around them and less to whatever text message they just received on their phone, we wouldn't have any greater risk of sneaking up on someone and accidentally hitting them with our quiet cars. And frankly our cities could use a little less noise... // end bitter rant |
