Love my 2011 Tucson GLS except for the <deliberate> oversight of not including an outside temp gauge.
Have any of you installed some sort of after-market temperature gauge that is of decent quality and looks nice and not stick out like a sore thumb? I've tried several cheaper units and ended up tearing them out as they looked terrible or the sensor location didn't work out. Any help appreciated.....

Digital Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer and Clock : Target
This worked pretty good until the battery died. I haven't bought another battery yet. I ran the sensor all the way to the front of the intake. I think it's accurate to 2 or 3 degrees F. The backlight is blue.

I don't care for the Auto CC. But, to eliminate the outdoor temp readout is ridiculous IMHO.....get this, the sensor is there <same as the Limited> and probably used for the ECU but no display. Silly!

Where is the outside temp displayed in the Limited? I wonder if the GLS has it but it's just deactivated. It's probably spliced in with the Auto HVAC since that needs to know the outside temp to work properly...

On the Limited it's displayed as part of the Auto climate control display(smaller display in below picture), which isn't shown on the GLS. I believe this temp sensor is used for the Auto climate control and also the ECU for engine management thus the GLS has it but just no display for it to show up. Sure think they could of had it displayed at least on the Navi/Tech package display, like I have. See below...

But I had this very unit on mine for 2 months....... Until a very hot day and the interior temp cooked the unit so it would no longer work, display all discolored.

This is why we don't have it. They cheaped out and only wanted to do 1 design/build (in the CC which the Limited has). It should have been 1 design/build and integrated in the driver instrument panel along with the fuel/temperature gauge like most cars do. At least the driver would have a clear sight line to it.
This is the first of 6 cars we've had since 2000 that hasn't had a thermometer. Even my wife's Mazda 3 has one. Where I live the temperature gauge is important for winter driving since we have a lot of freeze/thaw temps around freezing. I also haven't found any aftermarket thermometer that is remotely accurate. My original plan for a thermometer with this vehicle so far isn't working. ![]() Quote:
