Drives 2011 Tucson after the unfortunate demise of my Santa Fe

If I unlock my doors with the remote, and don't open a door within whatever the car considers to be a reasonable amount of time, the doors relock themselves. Is there a way to override this? (Like there is a way to control if/when the doors lock and unlock when the car is being driven or parked?).

I get that this is a "feature", but there are several occasions where this is a problem for me - if I'm at the grocery store etc in the rain, I like to be able to unlock the doors while I'm under cover so I don't have to stand longer in the rain. Or just so that I don't have to put things down on the ground while I rummage for the keys. (Think female with a backpack purse - even though the keys are clipped to that, I still have to put my stuff down to get to the keys - and frankly there are situations when I don't like the idea of standing by myself while rummaging around). The other time is when I am at home and want to retrieve something from the car. But in this case by the time I get to the car, it's locked again! If my keys are in the room with me, I want to be able to unlock the car in the driveway from there, and not have to take my keys with me (because that is when I'd forget to put them back where they belong).

Anyhow, just wondering if anyone knew if this was programmable?

I'm not sure if this is something that can be changed. You might contact your local Hyundai dealer and ask if it's a programmable option to not have it relock the doors.

Yes, I'll ask when I go in. I just figured I'd ask here first and maybe get a more accurate answer . When I had my Santa Fe, the service dept didn't know that I could have it set to lock the doors once I hit a certain speed... I'd learned that on this forum. It just made it simpler to say that I "know" people who have had it done when they started to say they didn't think it was possible.

I am also a little confused on my wife's '10 Tuck Ltd locking system; admittedly, I don't drive it much, but the locking/unlocking
procedure and results, are odd. A few posts on here talk of the same issue.

When she took it in to the dlr for front brake shudder, ("could not replicate", said the mechanic), she asked about programming or simply reviewing the lock process and results. The dlr knew nothing about 'programming', and the directions for the lock/unlock process were the same unsatisfying one she got at delivery. Not a big deal, but the Tuck is like no other car, locking/unlocking, that I have owned in 45 years, lol!

This is VERY standard behavior for every vehicle that I have owned that came with a key fob. This would include Hyundai, Kia, MB, and Audi. If you don't open a door with a set period of time (usually 30-40 seconds), the doors will indeed re-lock and the security system re-arm. I really don't know that you would want to turn this off.

I DO understand the occasions where you want the doors to be unlocked when you arrive at the car (rain, etc.), but you should be able to make it within that amount of time, unless you are parked out in the boonies! Hopefully, our next Hyundai's will have the proximity key, making all of this a "remember when...?" moment.

Tardy to reply, (just got home from a 2 month, 13,000 mile cross country Road Trip in the VetteVert!), and not arm wrestling; no car that I've had in the past couple decades does the automatic 're-lock' deal. Maybe because current cars are 'older', except for the CEO's Tuck. Our X5 has a very complex fob but it does not re-lock any door, unless I hit the lock button.

As for prox key: have driven several new cars with it, and for me, it is an 'answer' to a question I have never asked. That, and the 'start button', which I had on my '52 Ford, . Prox keys on some new brands, (BMW esp), glitch in rain or due to other anomalies and many reports of drivers coming back to their car with windows down and doors unlocked. Other than for people hauling toddlers, I just don't see/get the need for prox keys and start buttons.

NEway, different strokes.

Question 2003 Santa Fe doors relocking too quickly

We have a 2003 Santa Fe and we love it. The only problem we have is when we unlock the doors with the key fob all four doors re-lock immediately. You have to have your hand on the door handle when you hit unlock. This problem has been an on and off issue for a couple of years but it happens all the time now.

Before I take it to the dealer I would like to take a shot at fixing it myself, however, I have no idea what might be causing the re-locking.

Any ideas?

I had a car a number of yr ago that suddenly started to unlock the doors on its own. Like I'd park, lock the doors with the remote and as I turned to walk away I'd hear them unlock. Not a good thing since I was parking in a remote lot at work. That turned out to be a defective remote that had developed a mind of its own. Maybe not the case here, since it was an aftermarket alarm system, but just thought I'd mention it as a possibility.

For me, the "premature" locking isn't a problem anymore... I had a remote starter installed, so now I usually start the car from a distance, esp in inclement weather, and don't want it to unlock until I'm next to the car.
