Try to make it as simple as possible
Tuc oem use H4 bulb, which has 2 filaments, 1 for hi, 1 for low beam. It is a cheap way to eliminate the use of 2 separate bulbs. See photo 1. In Canada, the hi is also used as daylight driving light under reduced voltage. In Hid application, for Canadian config with DRL, we use bulb H-4-2 the bulb has 1 fliament for HID xenon low beam, 1 halogen bulb for Hi beam. See photo 2, the small white base bulb next to the filament. (hid cannot operate with reduced voltage) There are other variation of H4, such as bi-xenon. a trigger control both hi lo are xenon, not for us unless we re-wire the fog light to be DRL. Or Hi xenon, Lo halogen which is not practical If you are un-familiar with these, get professional installation. Make sure to ask for "Hi halogen, Lo xenon" Another advice, those selling at $50-90 are all made in China, even though the seller may appear as in USA, they ship from China to you. Not that the Chinese made are that bad. If you buy a Philips, will be over $200, Should last a few years if you dont get it wet or not that much night driving. 35watt will be enough, 55watt may lead to premature aging of your lens due to more heat. |

I forgot to mention that our head light are "reflector" type, which strictly speaking should not be modified into HID due to diffused light & glaring. That's why I mentioned dipping the aim of the beam.
For ultimate effect, get a KDM PROJECTOR HEAD LIGHT unit from Korea. That will be perfect. |

Thanks, I would love to get projector but costly ($500+)
I installed HID for my old corolla before so I want to do this myself, just the one-bulb-do-all design and the stupid dust cover (the one u need to unscrew to access the bulb) drive me nuts - will drill that sucker to pass through the wire. BTW, any beam pattern problem with the halogen hi? I saw this: Difference Between Single Beam, Hi/Low and Bi-Xenon HID : VVME.COM, Tattoo Kit, Xenon HID Kit, DVR Surveillance System & Projector It said "Note: the High portion of the High/Low bulb is NOT used for high beam driving as it will never point straight ahead. Its just for passing inspection." Finally, you only plug the H4 connector to the driver side, right? What is that one for? Thanks a bunch!!! |

The Hid bulb's halogen Hi is not much use as your xenon lo are adequate for normal city driving.
Do not flash your beams often as it will shorten the life of the ballasts. It takes extreme high voltage to turn them on. Drilling that hole thru the dust cover is a pia. If you have done it before, this will be easy job. Feel free to ask questions or you may go over similar topics here. It won't work without the relay as the computer knows what you are doing. Bulbs may light up, but won't work after engine started. |

If you connect the hid wires directly into the light harness, it won't work. Newer model cars use a "pulsating voltage/current" on the headlight, not a steady flow of 12V.
Put an in-line fuse not far away max 8-10" from the battery terminal, the shorter the better. Connect the cable to battery when everything is set & done. Use cable loom tube to protect the power cable, as well as all the wire harness inside the engine compartment. Use plenty of electrical tape to seal the opening of dust covers. Great trouble if dust/moisture entered the housing. GL |

I got this diagram. So the H4 plug from the HL connector need to plug back into the stock H4 plug inside the headlight casing (I think you need to do it nfor either driver or passenger side)
Yours is DDM, right? (I used DDM for my corolla) I think ther is a rubber "plate" that the bulb wires goes through, we can use it as part of the seal of the dust cover, no? BTW, any relay harness comes with fuse? h4fix.jpg Last edited by wkl_lau; 01-23-2013 at 09:34 AM. |

Your photo is bi-xenon, so there is H/L controller. Follow the instruction on your new kit.
Use the black rubber cap to cover the drilled hole in dust cover. I am not using DDM. Actually I had 3 sets, 1 is an expensive Canbus, bought 3 years ago, moved to the Tuc trying to cure the problem of flickering/buzzing. It has no effect on that. 1 is a cheap China made @$60, put on the Prelude. 1 is newest China made slim ballast said to have some fancy technology, lying around. Wife wont let me put on her CRV. The Canbus function is not needed. I have 1 set of new relay harness around but can't sell to you due to expensive postage On-QC, (postage costs more than the harness) |
