Hi,
Just test drove a Limited with the navi package. Also an Accord EXL Navi. I have to say they were both amazing! I'm leaning slightly toward the Hyundai mostly because it was more comfortable amongst other performance advantages. Do you have to pay a subscription for the navigation to work? Or is that just the live traffic, gas station, restaurant thing? Please give me your opinions on your Sonata. Pros, cons, weird cliches, etc.... I have a few months to decide. Thanks for your help! |

Well I have the 2013 Sonata SE 2.4, and I love this vehicle. I actually bought a 2008 fully equipped Honda Accord and returned it the next day and bought the Sonata shortly thereafter. I didn't opt for the Navi for 1 reason alone. They look outdated after a few years. I look in my friend's vehicles that have a Navi system and it just looks dated. I would much rather purchase a gps system, have something like the ipad mini mod or just use my phone over an in vehicle permanent Navi system. Plus I feel they are overpriced. Just my opinion.

I just bought a 2013 sonata limited with nav 4 weels ago. to answer your question no you do not have to buy a subscription for the nav to work, every few years you can bring it in and pay for map updates if you want to. but I would say hold of until the 2014 impala comes out and go with that. I regret buying the sonata. sure it looks great but it is a fuel pig I get 12L per 100 KMs currently in ECO mode. also it has already started to rust and has been in the shop for 2 weeks out the the 4 i had it to fix this issue, the rust control module they try to sell is bogus also. all the chrome on the trunk lid and rear emblem is also showing sign of rust. they have a great warrenty but how good is it when your car is always in the shop? and if it rusts in 4 weeks think of what it will do in 5 years. so be cautious is all im saying.

interesting... my major reason for getting a new car i mpg... this is the first I've heard of this issue. I do mostly highway driving and was hoping for that 28mpg avg.
Anyone else have an issue??? I know that sometimes it takes a few months for the avg mpg to even out to the actual acurate # Last edited by goodguy; 01-27-2013 at 11:46 PM. |

Dunno if Clark has the same car as I do lol. I drive all hwy during the week and I avg about 28.8 in Eco mode, when I don't drive like a maniac up to 30.5. No rust whatsoever on vehicle in Florida where it rains on a daily.

Keep in mind the Accord is a first year model so it is bound to experience some teething problems whereas the Sonata has been well sorted by now.
And if I had to do it over, I would get the NAVI mainly because it comes with a much better stereo system. The stock Stereo in the Sonata is pretty weak.

be careful with clark ken saying about mpg... here in canada mpg is pratically 1,5times higher in winter. my civic 2008 does 6l/100km during summer and about 10,5/100km during winter... ( winter tires -30 celsius outside).
For the rust, can't say yet but i'll definately look up for mine |

The rust you are seeing may be what is called rail road dust which is iron particles that settle on the paint when the car is transported from the manufacturing plant using rail. The rust module is a scam, plain and simple. Either use Krown annually or go commando and trust the factory coatings (as I am doing) The local dealer has what I would call "opportunities", but I would recommend the 2011+ Sonata to anyone that asks.
