Wink Brakes Suggestion for 2011 2.4L Hyundai Sonata SE

I have been getting a little wobble at high speeds(80MPH) when i brake the car. I am guessing those are the front disk brakes(had similar experience with my old 2002 Galant which i fixed with the brakes). My Sonata has 67,000 miles. Is it ok if i replace just the pads ?

I found these in ebay. Please provide your suggestions also. Thanks.

99% sure the rotors are warped and causing the wobble. Just pads will not fix that problem, unfortunately. Replacing both will do you well.

I agree with Scott, you probably have warped the rotors. It happens in a lot of cars, and is actually the reason I typically do brake jobs.

If the shake is minimal, you can try to replace the pads and have a shop machine (turn) the rotors. However, if the rotors are significantly warped, they can't be machined without becoming too thin. Also, once you warp a rotor, it is more likely to warp again after machining.

Unless you do a lot of heavy braking in wet conditions and you need immediate response to the brake pedal (e. g. racing), you really don't need slotted rotors. The slots are primarily for cleaning the rotors and pads. Plus, the slots tend to increase the wear on the pads.

If you are worried about the heat load on your rotors (althgouh 67k miles is pretty good for a set), you can go to cross-drilled rotors. The cross-drilling aids in heat dissipation. Again, for most sedans this is unnecessary, unless you just like the looks.

I have always been a little leary of brake pads off eBay. I am not saying that they aren't quality items, but if I buy the pads from AutoZone, I at least have some assurance that I can find someone to whom I can complain if I have a problem. That said, I have purchased rotors off eBay before. In the end, though, compare the costs with other sources (AutoZone, Advance Auto, Amazon.com, O-Rielly, etc.). Recently, I haven't been finding great deals on eBay for brake parts.

you could try machining the rotors. it will cut the rotors a little bit and return a smooth surface.

X-drilled/slotted can't have this done, and are throw away when you wear the pads out.

I bought rotors from rockauto in the past (for a different vehicle). Their prices are very competitive. Big selection for your SE; price range $28 to $121 per front rotor.

Warping of rotors many times occur because technicians fail to use a torque wrench on the lug nuts when rotating tires or installing new tires. If you torque the rotors properly, warping generally doesn't happen. My Ford Explorer had 140K miles on the original rotors and they had no traces of warpage whatsoever.
