![]() Miami can get some dastardly traffic. I was there for a clinical rotation previously (tho Broward-ish). You won't have to worry about this, but I wanted to post that winter cold is a HUGE factor in MPG's too. I lost ~2 mpgs when the temps hit below freezing (when I was in Chicago). Engine/oil just takes longer to warm up. This car shines w/ hwy mileage tho. I'm getting 33-ish mpgs w/ the cruise pegged @ 72. It will probably get closer to the 35 if you can keep her under 65.

I've found that mpg is very sensitive to my driving habits with my 2011 SE Turbo. "Baby-ing" the gas pedal produces very different results than stomping on it. As drivers, we have to determine our priorities - good mpg or driving fun.

If you are tech savy might be worth checking the spark plug gap, you'd be surprised how many cars cone out kof the deaker with the gaps outside of the soecified range. I have a SE and got 27-30 mpg combined, with mostly city driving during rush hour. Also I do have the eco switch on 98% of the time. On long highway trips I have gotten up to 40 mpg, driving in my car's sweet spot speed between 67-80 mph. My car came with the so ark plug gappung at the right setting btw.

This car is horrible with stop and go traffic and will reflect in your MPG. Also 30% isnt a whole lot to recover that much. Also if you are a rabbit accelerator and non-coaster that will also reflect.
If you use your instant MPG indicator does it always go up and down in large jumps or is it more smooth? That gauge was the largest indicator to me how poorly I drove (referring to use of the gas pedal).

according to my calculations... my wife is doing 23-26mpg on our car with 80/20% city/hwy driving.
Canadian car so our computer reads L/100km... she's usually between 9ish to 10ish. (9ish when she does do some highway driving, usually weekends... 10-10.5 during the week) for comparison I'm doing about the same with my Corolla with 60/40% city/highway driving.

I have booked a 2013 Sonata GLS with PEP (Red). I will be getting it in about 15 days.
Two months ago, I rented a 2012 Sonata GLS. I drove about 500 miles (about 90% freeway and 10% city) in ECO mode. In freeway, I was driving at about 75 mph (mostly on cruise control). The car came with full tank of gas and I filled the tank before returning the vehicle. Bases upon the gallons filled and miles driven, it appears that I got about 34 mpg. If I would have driven between 65-70 mph and also 100% on freeway, it would have easily crossed 35 mpg easily. Looking forward to get my 2013 Sonata. I have been looking at this vehicle since 2011. I got about 32k miles on my 2012 GLS. I baby it and do mostly hwy miles. Average about 45 mph or more. I get about 30.5-32 mpg. This is an improvement from when I first got the car and got about 28 mpg. Somewhere around 20k miles, I was normally getting 29mpg. I didn't change anything up, but my mpg has gone up since hitting 25k miles.
I always reset my mpg monitor with every new tank, and I fill up when I am at one or two "bars" on the indicator. I normally reset the time driven at every fill up. I average almost 11 hours or more of driving time per tank. Hope this info helps someone. I drive with the ECO on pretty much all the time. |
