$30 will get me a 5 qt. jug of Mobil1 at Walmart and a
factory filter (bought in 10 pack online). Not some bulk oil of unknown quality.

When I do it myself, I do it clean and neat and without time pressure and on my schedule. And I get to inspect the entire undercarriage

5w-20 dino with a factory filter. No specific oil brand anymore. Every 3000 miles just so I don't give it time to breakdown. LOL BTW I change it twice a year if that gives you an idea of how much I drive and I do it myself. Have for the past 6 years.

With the 100K power train warranty, I couldn't care less if they use horse p_ss 5W20. I'll replace the car before that warranty is up.

I'm a DIYer. I use the OEM filter and Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance or 5W-20 Extended Performance, whichever is available in 5-qt. jugs when I decide to pick some up. This oil is very high quality synthetic that boasts a 15,000 mile oil change interval. I have no intention of pushing it to that limit and I go 6,000 to 7,500 miles, which is the max allowed by Hyundai for so-called normal service.

I let the old oil drain an extra long time while performing other maintenance on the car or on my wife's car. I am then confident I've gotten as much of the old stuff out as possible. Dealerships and quick-change places often put the plug back in your oil pan well before it's all out because these places are so rushed. I then use the entire contents of the 5-qt. jug, which is only about one-tenth of a quart more than the 4.86 spec'd in the owners manual. Overfilling by one-tenth of a quart is no issue whatsover, IMO, and in fact it looks perfect on the dipstick when I check the oil level the following morning.

For those who are interested in a 0W-20 oil for cold weather performance but are reluctant to try it because Hyundai does not approve of the 0W grade, consider using Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20, which is the thinnest 5W-20 oil that is commonly available (meaning, not one of the ultra-expensive, harder to get boutique oils). Over at Bob Is The Oil Guy site you can learn that there are often large variations of pumpability/flowability at given temeratures even within the same grade.

I changed the oil for my Sonata's first oil change a few days ago at 5,968 kms which is the Canada recommended OCI for my Hyundai Sonata (6,000 kms or 4 months whichever comes first). I kept the FF in until the full 6,000 kms in case the factory uses a special oil. I used Pennzoil Platinum 5W20 with OEM Hyundai filter for the first OC. The car engine is quieter on start-up than the factory oil - noticably more quiet.
