So this clackin and thunkin from the front supension is something we all have to live with? Second. Dealer says everythings tight. I think its the strut mounts because the noise seems to at top of dash behind the fire wall. It sounds like two metal balls knocking together clack clack.:
Seems to getting worse as the kms rack up. |

I have 35,000 miles on my 2011 Sonata GLS. The suspension on this car is not the quietest. I get a lot of suspension noise from the rear suspension, and some minor noise from the front. Nothing sounds like metal-on-metal, though. My noises are all muted thuds and knocks.

I noticed mine since day one has a slight clunk sound when going over speed bumps at an angle and not straight on. I have had ford E150 and E250 vans make the same sounds when the bushings were worn.
I have the suspicions that it was the sway bar bushings since the beginning. Next time it is on the lift for service, ask them to check the sway bar assembly bushings.

on a few cars of mine that had this issue, replacing the sway bar end links eliminated the clanking knocking over small bumps. it typically sounds as if the strut mount itself is loose and that's always what i check first, but on both cars it ended up being the end links.

Since the car is now lowered I probably will replace the bushings and links myself with Polyurethane kits.

^^ bingo...it's the endlinks. Replace them and you will be fine. I replaced mine after raising my Sonata back to stock height after being lowered.
It's a known fact in the Hyundai community that their endlinks wear VERY fast. If you have ever taken one apart, you will see why. The ball joint inside the rubber cover is not made very well. Also, the endlinks are not bushings...its a rod connected to a ball joint on both ends that attaches to the strut and sway bar. It's the ball joint that fails. You can replace the sway bar bushings, but that really isn't the cause of your issue. Last edited by Mod King; 11-26-2012 at 07:55 PM. |

I have always replaced them with poly when doing end links. My 02 explorer was the worst, they wore at 68,000 and let the sway bar slide left and right. Some brands of sway bars are designed so they wont walk or minimize the lateral movement. Poly is less prone to that creak noise as they age than rubber. I have a habit of keeping vehicles for 6-8 years and at 8 years the most miles I racked up was 89,000 miles. So with the warranty up to 100,000 miles I might be keeping this car for as much as 9-10 years.
