Korean cars have gone a long way. So commendable. But some of the minor gripes I have, still influence me to probably go back to my "comfort zone" of a German car.

I just feel "detached" from this car. Steering is too overboosted, clutch sucks, road feel attenuated, road noise higher than I'm used to. The only time I see the fuel-saving is on longer road trips. Mixed driving, it's about the same mpgs as all my old cars.

I was going to modify it, but by the time I spend the $ go get it where I'd want to keep it, I'd already be in the ballpark of the JSW TDI.

Winter will be a decider. Otherwise, adios in the spring.
I am also a lover of most things German, automobile-wise. However, I think you might be a bit unreasonable in your comparisons. Your sig indicates you are coming out of an S4, into a manual tranny Sonata. That's going down from a $35-40K car into a vehicle that sells for 60% of that, right? Of course you are going to be a bit jaded, there, no?

Audi's are VERY good at providing great road feel and having a quiet cabin, no doubt about that. However, they do with some drawbacks. One of those was an absolute deal-breaker for us. Every single Audi is made with so much sound isolation built into the trunk/cargo area that you can't even fit a set of golf clubs into it, unless you turn them diagonally! This is true on the A3, A4, the A4 Allroad, the A4 Avant, etc. Even the fabulous A7 is that way, but at least you can put them in front-to-back, with how long that trunk is! Sorry, but we need that room!

I am VERY impressed with how good my SE feels, both in town and on the highway. Is it up to the same standards as my previous Benz and Audi were? No, but only fractionally less, and for thousands less, I'll take everything this has and bank the rest!

Either way, I hope you find the car of your dreams. We all should be driving that one!

I love my 2013 GLS. I'm only 1900 miles into ownership, but I'm very impressed. I haven't seen any of the bugaboos others have mentioned. My mileage is stellar, especially coming off of a 2003 Jeep Liberty. I can't say enough about this car...great options, good mileage, comfortable, peppy with the 2.4 and 6 speed.

I have a 2013 Black Sonata Se with nav and so far I am very happy with this car. I bought the car in mid August then went on a 2,000 mile trip that averaged 34.1 MPG. I only have 3,500 miles on the car but no wind noise, does not pull left and is a very enjoyable ride!!! The 2.4 engine is all I need to keep up and pass cars on the interstates. My first Hyundai and hopefully will have many enjoyable years to come.

I told myself I would never buy a Hyundai.... then I bought the Sonata. I'm REALLY impressed with the shifting. You can't even feel it at all. When the AC is on it doesn't sound like the engine is on. People complained about road noise but.... my focus was pretty loud and this thing is quiet. Active Eco is pretty cool. The way it shifts is just how I wanted my Focus to be.
For 23k I'm quite happy with my Sonata SE... I just hope it lasts a good 10-15 years.

While I am new to Hyundai, I did buy my 2013 Sonata Limited with Nav a few weeks ago. So far I am very impressed by the build quality, it is a very well thought out car that appears to put together very well, fit and finish is very good. The handling is every thing I hoped for, the car is responsive enough for me and it has a very nice solid feel on the road and highway speeds. Also this is my first 4 cyl in close to 40 years of driving and while it is odd to get used to a 4 cyl whine, the 2.4 certainly provides more then enough performance for this old guy! If you want it to go, it certainly will! Prior to buying this vehicle I looked at many different vehicles and manufacturers, the more I looked the more I kept coming back to the Sonata. Bang for buck with toys and options was fantastic and again the quality of the build kept bring me back. So in my short period of ownership I think it is safe to say I am more then happy with this new vehicle. I really think the big three have to get their stuff together or they are going to get in big trouble.

I've had mine for almost 3 years and still LOVE IT. My wife mostly drives it now, but I still get probably a compliment a week on it even though they're all over town. Could it be quiter? Shift better? Have more options? Yep. Could my car payment be higher? Yep.

very happy so far, at least me... my wife on the other hand is OK with the car, and doesn't have many things to complain about... however, we both like the new 2013 Santa Fe and she likes the Veloster for some reason, so we'll probably either up or down grade.

I'm thinking of moving to the FR-S/BR-Z in a year or two so the Corolla will be gone as well... the Supra is sticking around for a while.

I like my '12 GLS. I hope I keep liking it for a long time. I hate watching cars wear out, but that's the way it goes.
