Default Escaped a tint ticket by skin of teeth

And yes, I brushed that morning.

Got pulled over for expired registration (oops! Have since fixed this.)

I roll all the windows down as cop approaches car, and put hands on steering wheel. (What a good boy I am.)

He gives me the usual speech, then says this car has very dark tint (duh-- 5% limo on entire back half, 35% front side windows and 50% windshield).

After being super apologetic about the registration (I remember getting the e-mail but forgot to renew, so sorry!) I tell him "the guy I got the car from had it done."

He takes all my paperwork and tells me I can roll my windows back up and stay warm while he disappears into his car for about 10 minutes.

The entire time we (wifey and I) are giving odds on whether he will give us the ticket for the tint job. I *really* don't want to have to hassle with it even tho my tint shop is pretty cool and I think they will swap it for free. I love having the limo tint! The law in Indiana is written such that the violation is that the cop can't see into the car, and it is a *defense* to that violation to be able to show that the tint you have is 30% or less. So when I rolled the windows down, that eliminated the violation (or so I hoped while he was sitting in his car for ten long minutes).

Bottom line: he wrote us up for the registration, but not the window tint. Me: happy.

Car is now registered. Indiana BMV: also happy.

I got 5% all around and 55 in on the windshield. what i do is go in to I don't care mode and have all my paper in hand before he walks up then, pull out my phone and go on FB or do something really odd to just threw the cop off. I once placed bad boys that worked: cop asked why i did that, i said well i was hoping it was the TV show COPS got a laugh out of it.

Wait... you have the entire windshield tinted? People do that? I couldn't imagine trying to drive with the windshield tinted.

Quite a few people tint the entire windshield...I would never do it with a dark tint. I wish I could get 90 on the windshield but it is expensive and not so practical.

Windshield tinting is illegal in CA. I'd probably go for a mild tint if I could. Doing most of my driving when dark, it's nice to have it clear...

Not in Michigan. You can tint the backs to any degree you want, but if you place ANY tint on the front (other than the four-inch band at the top), it's not a "code violation" (meaning, repair and report), it's a moving violation, meaning fine AND points for the driver, no matter whose car it is! I had it on my Jetta back in the 90's and the trooper that pulled me over was kind enough to tell me that they had just changed the law, and I probably should take the front tint off. Haven't messed with it since. It looks nice, but really, I don't need the hassle.
