Default Questions about the Proximity key.

I've been wondering about this key ....

Is it rechargeable ?
Whats the slot for in the middle compartment ?
Why my dealer told me that it is rechargeable if its not ?
How long will the battery last ?
Any advice ?

Tnx.

It is not rechargable. It takes a battery, just like common FOBs. The slot is used when the key lacks the power to transmit all the way to the push start. When battery is dead or almost dead, you plug it into the slot and it will work. It does not recharge the key. Your dealer told you it was because he doesn't know any better. The battery life will depend on your use. No telling. The car will tell you as is starts getting low.

If you ever need to use the center console slot to start it, you have to take the black part off and just use the key only, just fyi. I've had to use mine 4-5 times in two years when the car won't start because it keeps saying the key is not in the car for some reason. Keeps telling me to depress the brake although I am mashing it through the floorboard.

On mine, the entire fob clicks and locks into place when used in the console.

Your brake switch must be on the way out which seems to be a common problem on this vehicle.

My dealer also told me that with a weak battery, you can hold the FOB right next to the push start button and it should start.

hmm, i have put the whole fob in there and it still wont start, then i take the physical key out and push it in there and it starts. so that's why i assumed it had to be out of the case. i'll try it again next time it happens.

I would think that's a five year 60K mile item.
