So a week or so ago I tried to start my car (push button ignition), the accessory and ignition power would come on but the car wouldn't start. An orange icon would pop up that showed my car with a key in the center, and it would tell me to put my foot on the brake to start. Tried it a couple more times and it started up. Happened again a few days later, thought maybe it was the battery in my key low or something, didn't really have time to fix it or think much about it. Couple days later, car wouldn't start.

Had to have my car towed to the dealership, it was a brake switch failure. My car didn't know I was pressing on the brakes, so it wouldn't start with push-button ignition. After having it fixed I talked to someone else and they had the same problem. Also had a friend with a newer CRV and he's had 3 fail.

Basically, if that happens, bring it to the dealership right away and it's probably the brake switch failing.

Wow same thing happend to me last week. I took my car in for an oil change and sure enough when I got it back I started having issues with my ESC light coming on as if traction control was initiated (my car was parked) took it in that following Monday my car was throwing an open circuit C1513 code, and they had to replace the brake switch assembly. Just got it back today

I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of this. I still love the car of course, just giving a heads up to people so as soon as they see the issue they can take it in instead of being stranded and needing the car towed!

Car doesn't need to be towed, if you hold down the start button for 30 seconds the car will start with out the brakes pressed.

Do you have a part number for the brake switch? I have gotten the yellow car icon with a key a couple times and occasionally it doesn’t want to shift out of park. It looks like it’s an easy replacement so I’d rather do it myself as I don’t have a lot of luck with dealerships.

Happened to me the first time last week. And I've had the car for a year 20k miles. Totally forgot about the 30 second thing. I was at the lights the other day and I was on and off with the car trying to get that light to dissapear so I can put it into gear because it didn't let me. I was about a min away to call Hyundai road side to pick it up. So I put my hazards on and waited about 15-30 seconds and turned on the car and the light was off so put it into gear and took off. It honestly hasn't done it since. If it does it again then I'll contact my dealership and their not going to give me any $hit because in the end their not paying for it or driving it everyday so for them to tell me they can't reproduce the problem. I don't think so.

It's warranty, let Hyundai eat the part and labor.. what you going to do about the hidden codes in the PCM, or ABS/ESC module that may be there waiting for you to find and clear ??

Part number, walk up to part counter and ask fella for switch.. part number should be --> 98310-3K000.. we have a box full of them.

Typically I would but when I had it there the last time for the left pull issue they ended up scratching one of the wheels in multiple places. Had they owned up to it when I noticed it I would have been fine but they did not. Car only had 200 miles on it and I had only owned it for a week. Maybe I will just take it back for this fix but that rubbed me the wrong way.

Thank you for the part # though.
