I've got a 2011 Sonata GLS and recently I've been having issues with the ESC light (not the OFF light) activating and staying ON until the car is restarted. I notice that it happens most when I'm doing low speed turns. I'm hoping I can catch it some day when I have time to make a stop into the dealership while it's illuminated. Does anyone else experience this issue? Could it be a result of improper tire pressure?
Thanks |

probably nothing with tire pressure, if the light stays on that means there is a fault in the system.. most likely a wheel sensor.
take it to the dealer, they it would be under warranty.

Yep, the manual states to take it to the dealer if the light remains on. They will fix it, this is what they do.

Another possibility is your brake pedal sensor switch. I had the same symptom prior to mine failing. (ESC Light coming on after cornering.)
The headache is that the car depends on the brake pedal sensor to allow you to start the car. Mine was fixed quickly, and no issues after the fix. By the way, if that is the issue, and the car won't start, you can over-ride by holding your start button for 30 seconds.

So.. just wondering.... if the brake pedal sensor goes bad on a GLS, does it prevent the car from starting? (Do you still have to step on the brake to start the car?) If so.. I wonder if holding the key to start for 30 sec does the same thing.

This same thing happened to me today. I called the dealer and they told me to use a screw driver or nail file; whatever fits in the little square to the left of the shifter, it says "shift lock release"; once you have the cover off, you have to stick the object down in the square and the shifter will release. This is just a band-aide, it will be going to the dealer on Friday to have it fixed. Hope this helps!

Just had this ESC light issue with my 2011 GLS. Took it in, they found a stored DTC for the brake light switch/circuit. Replaced under warranty in less than 45 minutes.
No symptoms other than the ESC light. Since the GLS is a good old fashioned key start, you do not have to press the brake pedal to turn the key/start the car. My only concern would be if it would eventually prevent you from shifting out of park since you do need to press the brake to shift out of park.
