You want it to lock when you get out and leave the vehicle? Is that it?

I have an SE, so don't know if it's the same, but I have to press the button on the outside of the door to lock them.

What do you mean they don't lock when you leave the car? If you push the button on the remote they will lock. Or if you have the SE or Limited you can push the black button on either front door. What are you looking for?

I have a Code Alarm system in one of my cars, it can be programed to auto-arm a certain amount of time after the last door is shut and your keys are out of the ignition. You have to be careful, it locks-up even if your keys are still in the car... I don't use that feature.

Sorry, Yes. I want to know if the alarm and doors lock automatically when I exit the car after a few minutes. What I mean to say: Does the alarm self arm and door lock after I exit the car after a short time later?

thanks

By default no. You will need to get a aftermarket alarm / remote starter installed to get that feature like some of the higher end Compustars have. Not really a useful feature as if you park at a mall walk away it just takes that theif 20 seconds to go into your car before it self alarms.

As equiped, the car will not lock the doors of set the alarm automatically. What is installed is a passive system, whereby, the operator needs to take action, such as pressing the button on the door handle or pressing the lock button on the key fob, either of which will lock the doors and arm the alarm system. To get the functionality you are referring, you would have to install an aftermarket system. Good luck, let us know how you make out.

A friend has the GLS with the smart key and he says the doors lock after 10 minutes of not "seeing" the key.
I haven't seen it do this though, but he really liked the feature. No aftermarket equipment at all.
