How can I turn on or see if hd radio is working? Tried the few instructions in manual but doesn't seem to work. Thanks in advance!

Hit the setup button, then enter and you will see HDradio and it will allow you to set it how you'd like. There is an HD symbol at the top of the screen towards the left. Some stations aren't HD capable. When you have it on, it always says HD1 or HD2. It always displays the artist and name of the song playing.

It really boosts the sound and it sounds a lot better. It takes about 5 seconds for the HD to kick on when you switch stations.

Remember if you have nav, you don't have it.

Everyone who HDradio has access to it. When the Sonata's first started coming out, they didn't have HD. I'm not sure when they added it but it says it on the radio if you have it.

HD Radio is turned on by going thru the set-up function of the radio, minus the NAVIGATION units, where this feature is deleted. Once on, it does sound better, much more equal sounding thru-out the cabin.

Not all radio stations are broadcasting in HD. If you have it on, and they are broadcasting in HD, the radio will sound like it 'skipped' when it changes over to HD (which it does automatically). The artist/song will appear in the screen and the little HD1 will show up in the right side of the display. Once this mode appears, you can hit the 'TUNE' button up/down and if the station has more than one HD signal, it will tune these in as well, with the appropriate HD2 or HD3 displaying.

Remember, once you have the function turned on in the radio set-up, it is automatic from there on out.

As others have said, not all stations broadcast HD signals. Here's a quick way to see whether you're even in a market with HD broadcasting:
http://www.hdradio.com/find_an_hd_di...io_station.php

So long as you follow the instructions given both here and in your manual (and so long as your radio says "HD" right on the face of it), you'll have turned on your radio's ability to receive and play HD for you.

Personally, I find the Sonata's factory stereo (at least the "Dimension" system in the Limited) to have extremely poor stereo separation and 'sound stage.' I also find the high frequencies to lack headroom and definition. HD corrects much of that, making the music sound slightly to moderately better than it would sound with a good FM tuner and speaker system. This poor audio fidelity is actually good in one sense: The poor FM sound quality makes satellite radio not seem to bad, comparatively. OTOH, the overall sound is quite poor from the radio (excepting HD, which we don't have here, but I got to listen to on a recent vacation). So, it's kind of a mixed thing?

Good luck.

HyundaiLvr87 instructions were spot on which wasn't what the manual said to do. Thanks for the quick reply! The HD sounds SO much better WHEN there is HD available.

Glad I could help. I pretty much went off of memory on those instructions. Occasionally I'll mess around with the Sonata radios at work to try and get the best sound and I just remember messing with the HD before.

I misread your post. Only Limited's without nav have HD. Also, some early 11's didn't have HD.
