Due to rising cost of petrol I am thinking of converting my 2010 i20 to CNG. From the survey I did, I understand that there are essentially 3 kind of kits available in the market, Normal, Closed loop & Sequential. Most of teh dealers recommend Closed loop saying it works fine...
My question to the team out here is: Have you seen any i20 getting converted to CNG? If you could share any details pertaining to it, it would be helpful.

Got my i20 converted to CNG around 2-3 weeks back.. Got it done from Rohan BRC in pune.. Costed me around 30500 from Closed loop.. Done around ~500 kms.. Still getting aquainted with it... Need to rectify the initial pickup problem (which is low) ..Will get it done by this weekend...
It gives around 150 Kms for Rs300 of CNG in city driving conditions when on petrol it uses to give me around 12-13 km for Rs 70..

Default cng conversion

dear friend i will answer ur question please find necessary info

1.Will it affect the petrol milage?
no it will not acffect the petrol milage at all because system is individual to petrol though they are inter linked tht is all whn using cng it shuts off petrol soo dos not do anything with petrol

2.How much boot space would be lost?
boot space my friend apparently the whole thing will be lost cant help tht is u wana save some where every advantage has a dis advantage

3.What is the weight of the CNG lit? 72 KG?
yup it is approx cylinder weight 72 kgs there are 2 types of cylinders also plz enquire about tht too there is one 14 kg one and a 12 kb one not sure about kg but i have the biggest one which is i think 14 kg. 14kg is the max gas tht can go in the tank if pressure is ultra high as in above 300 psi but tht usually does not happen max i filled till date is 10 kg 14 is i think a buffer kinda thing for different variation in temperature and season changes

4.DO I have to put any padding under the Shock absorbers at the back to remove the tilt of the vehicle?
yes i have put 2 aluminum rings under my rear shock up cause as it is earlier the car i felt was low it used to hit on speed breakers with full load, which infact has now become way better after raising it.it compensates for the cng tank weight+passengers+fuel tank if its full u will have no problem at all ever of hitting a bump or anything.so highly recomended

5. What is the cost of the CNG per KG?
well cng is approx 31.70 per kg and considering a average of 9 kgs is what goes in the tank at times it comes out to be only approx 285rs. for a full tank which is way cheaper than petrol so its a big saving

6. How much milage wd I get per KG of CNG within mumbai city?
as far as this question goes i cant tell u anything exactly cause it depends on traffic condition my car in the mumbai traffic gives me approx 15 on cng yes 15km again its a approximation depends on car to car driving style, also on kit tht is put in the car infact just for ur knowledge cng according to me gives higher milage more than petrol on highway mumbai pune my car gives me average of 20 even if i rev it too 100 -120 so not bad according to me

7. What is the total capacity of the CNG tanks?
total capacity varies i just know there are 2 variants of tanks avialable 12 kg and 14 kg also know as big or small

8. Is there any reserve capacity?
see technically there is no reserve capacity in the cng tank but there is a indication in the cng unit the switch where there are lights to indicate how much gas is there approx, there is a system in it which will kinda alert u by blinking or it will switch to a red light which will indicate tht u r running on reserve and according to ur cars average tht is the distance u wuill be able to go.if u look at it u can go approx 600 km in one strech or more considering u have fuel + cng so even if cng gets over or finished u can switch to petrol anytime

9. Any precautions to be taken while going for the conversion?
well no precations as such but just insure u getting it done by a authorised person who knows what he is doing and also pay attention to the kind of tank as in seamless imported tank is being put or what kind otherwise u may have problems in future and also insure he puts a timming advancer or a computer as they call it whn he is putting the kit

10. Any specific instructions?
well no specific instruction just plain simple things u can do to get better milage and average is keep ur air filter clean at all times depends on use if u use the car on regular basis and use is a lot then recomend checking or cleaning air filter ever 20-25 days this will give u a good mileage and if money aint a big problem i would suggest put a K&N filter in ur car a lifetime filter tht u can clean and wash and put back in ur car one time replacement and then only cleaning required no need to throw it and change it everytime

i hope this gives u a in sight on the cng bit any question u can post them here i will help no worries i have quite a bit of knowledge on this cause i have had cng in my cars for over 10 yrs now the time from whn it was first introduced till date i use it lol!!! even on new cars i recommend ppl to put it cause it the savings u have to look at the end of the day.as far as company is concerned it is a pain going to them for anything they will only tell u warranty will get void (we have bought a product from them tht doesnt mean they threaten us with warranty void every time) infact even at their level they have no after sales service and not just hundai i have seen all companies rite from maruit to gm to ford to tata u name it no quality in service and the bills they make dont ask .well india hai u know how it is we all have the care free attitude chal raha hai chal ne do types i perfer and also till what ever xtent DIY on my cars rather than taking them to some far of god forsaken end of mumbai just to service my car and then leave it with them and u not being sure of what they have done and all waste of time.anyway it is going off topic now lol! sorry for the time but anyway anymore help or questions just ask.

it is totally safe and a vey cheap alternative then petrol highly recomended

Just An update having done around 7k on CNG:

The milage aspect is awesome. On Highway, With AC, A 9-10KG gas drives me around 225-250 Kms,

While in City traffic, its predominantly Rs 2/Km..
