Hey guys new here. Took delivery of my new 17 Elantra yesterday 5/17. Coming from a 2014 Silverado with aftermarket mods out the rear.

On that note I've noticed my Elantra the front headlights seem to have that HID projector "dome" but only halogen lights. Can these be turned into HIDs to match the fog lights? Any try this yet?

Can't wait for the aftermarket accessory game to step it up with this car. Love the way she looks.

Perhaps this won't contribute much, but I'm sure they can installed. Changing factory headlights to an HID shouldn't be done...and if it is, make sure to buy a decent kit and adjust the beam to point where it should. Too many aftermarket kits on the road blinding other drivers. Xenon supply has some nice kits. Nothing directly available for the AD model. I'm sure if you called them, they would look into it.

As to aftermarket items, what else are you looking for? There's already a decent amount of items online. No one has made any direct engine mods/ suspension mods directly marketed for this model. However, there are kits that will work. Hi motors as well as several other areas online sell aftermarket parts for the AD model.

Use "2017 Avante AD" as your search words on eBay. Pop! Up they come. Including rear reflector LED's that bolt right up...complete set is 2. No modifying the ones you're removing, opening, putting in the LED's, resealing, reinstalling. About $98 for the pair with $7.?? shipping.

You go first. I'll read your install post. LOL I'm gonna do the blue footwells first. Then either the reflectors or a dash cam. Might have to flip a coin on those.

Forget about the headlights for a bit. Enjoy them for what they are...trouble-free, worry-free, hassle-free, and maintenance-free. Start messing around inside there, however...

Let some of that "new" wear off the car, first. LED change outs on everything else, however, I would highly recommend. It's relatively inexpensive, easily installed, and the results are incredible. Don't forget the license plate, trunk, and backup LED bulbs, too.

Re: Reflector LED's. Have you looked under the rear bumper at what's involved? I did, briefly, but need a flashlight for better visibility. I really DO NOT want to remove the bumper to obtain easy access. Although that would be the smart money wager.

yup, the 2016 avante is the same car as the Elantra '17. The Koreans received a few nice features on their cars that aren't on the American counterparts. One of the several things they received on their models was DRL w/in the headlight housing. This looks more professional imo. Wild guess here, I suppose the American version went with the DRL outside of the headlight both for costs and what the thought looks nice.

It's far easier and cost effective to replace led DRL that aren't in the headlights.

So... If you really want a custom look, look into exledshop dot com their Koran site is exledmall dot com. The Korean site has a few more items than the American site, but you'll have to dig a little their to find those other items.

Btw you're model is the AD generation of the Elantra. The MD was the prior gen. Sucks ass Hyundai called this gen AD. Every time I search for new aftermarket parts searching 'Elantra/ avante AD 16/17' it always brings up ads for other things.

I still can't post links here since I'm a new member. Try that link but remove the spaces and replace dot with . There's five areas where I added a space.

For those that have factory HID lights without changing the bulb, does the color of the light appear more blue??

In person it appeared to me white-ish the first time I saw them, then a buddy of mine bought his and they appear to be more on the blue side. I went online to see if I could find any pics with others sharing their experiences. The pic below looks more on the blue side.

That really depends on the white balance setting on the camera. Factory HID's are almost always anywhere between 4100º K (Kelvin) and 5000º K, which I believe is a DOT requirement. To me, that looks closer to 6000º, but the DRL's match the low beams, so I'm inclined to believe it's the camera as I doubt anyone's changed out the DRL's for a higher (bluer) color temperature already.

Here's the color scale to use:

Scene: late night, somewhere in America, a Phillips or Sylvania lighting design engineer sits. Looking for any excuse NOT to go home to wife who will unleash a tirade of verbal expletives because he didn't mow the lawn, take out the trash, something.

So, his reasoning for coming home late: "I've been tasked with developing a new bulb design at work. I'll have to work late for some time in order to bring this new project in on time.

Seems plausible. Ideas come from many sources...might shock us to hear some of the more "unbelievable" ones.

2357 - which is supposedly a slightly brighter filament then than the 1157.

http://www.hyundai-forums.com/md-20...013-hyundai-elantra-bulb-chart-im-newbie.html

Odd that they seem to be mixing the 3156 (blade base) and the 2357 (round base) on the same car, but ...

Odd that about the only Google link for PY28/8W comes back to this forum ...

Makes me think it is one of those cases where Hyundai calls the bulb a P28/8W so you will go get it from the dealer instead of picking up a 2357 at Wally-Mart.
