"Avante AD" are the key words.

I'd go for one of those AVS brand Hood, bug guard/deflectors. Have one on the 2012. It looks sharp and keeps the nose clean and ding free.
Had one on 2013. I thought it looked kinda sexy. And, it was an AVS brand. From Amazon, at the time. Quick install, too. I did mod it a bit, however.

Prior to install, I drilled 3 small holes (3/16ths?) in the fold on the lower front...away from view. One in the middle, one on each side. Purpose was to let rainwater drain out and not stay inside. Always fun when rinsing the hood during a wash to watch the water running out of this 3 exits. Very functional.

A pic! We need pics, or it didn't happen and she didn't wear that ensemble! :grin2:

My AVS was installed using three plastic grommet/push pins where the rubber (neoprene?) gasket is located underneath the leading edge of the hood. Removed the pins from that, put the deflector on, put the gasket underneath, reinserted the pins. Done. About a 5 minute mod.

It actually took me longer to measure and mark the locations where to drill, and drill the holes, than it did to install the thing. Holes had to be perfectly spaced. I'm crazy like that. It's an OCD thing that goes back to my days of being potty-trained at gunpoint! :grin2:

This thing installed using the trunk liner as its sole means of support? I'm wondering if that liner has the tensile strength to hold up an umbrella over the years and not sag?

I have one of those telescoping ones (color coordinated with my interior, of course) and I keep it "nose down" in that floor crevice on the left side of the driver's seat. It snugs up vertically between the seat back and the lower section of the B pillar. Stays in place really well and doesn't interfere with the seat's power controls.

I suppose you could keep it in the driver's side water bottle holder on the door panel. Hadn't thought of that.

Besides, that's what wives are for, yes? To hold your umbrella for you when it's raining? >:D (Glad the missus isn't a member of this forum. It would be difficult to breathe right about now.)

i would be inclined to say, "yes!" I can't imagine replacing incandescent bulbs up there every time one burns out. My 2013's wing had LED's. Four years and never so much as one LED burning out.

I think aftermarket suppliers probably specify LED's, for appearance, as well as for minimal warranty-related issues.

#19 ·
Depends on what bulbs we are talking about.

For brake lights - incandescents take a while to warm up compared to LED's - not much, maybe 1/2-second, but I think you have better visibility with LED's in housings that are designed for LED's. Now you still tend to get more light output and angular dispersion with incandescents so it can be hard to get the same visibility with LED bulbs in incandescent housings - usually I don't swap out the brake light bulbs - except the 3rd brake light.

For interior and license plate lights, I like the whiter-bluer lighting of LED's

For turn signals, if you have clear lenses, it is a bit easier to conceal an LED than an amber incandescent, but you have to deal with special flashers or load resistors, so I don't bother with them either.

+1 If I have to start adding that mess, I'm also out of the equation. No patience for the wiring, soldering, mounting, etc.

Sort of like my ol' girl just the way she is! Well, maybe a couple of rear LED reflector lenses. Man, had those on the 2013. Sure do miss them. (As soon as I figure out the easiest access point WITHOUT having to remove the bumper.)

Didn't I just say I didn't want to wire, solder, mount, etc? Okay, within moderation, I guess.

#22 ·
It's a matter of cost/benefit for me.

Rear bumper LED's will help visibility and POSSIBLY make someone less likely to rear-end me. I'm all for them.

There is very little chance that someone will see an LED turn signal and NOT see an incandescent one.

The only time I would use LED's for these was if I were doing something really custom and off the wall (not sure, but like switching the 3456 sockets for 3457 sockets and using amber/white swichback LED's so that the inner and outer lenses were BOTH turn signals and back-up lights).

....switching the 3456 sockets for 3457 sockets and using amber/white swichback LED's so that the inner and outer lenses were BOTH turn signals and back-up lights).
Now, there's an idea! Hmm...throw in an extra set of brake LED's on the inner lenses.

#24 ·
Would be an option as well.

From what I could see from the owner's manual, I think the inner lenses already work for tail AND brake lights ...

(Yep, I worry too much about this stuff).

And the Limited has LED tails/brakes anyway - not sure about turn signals.

But you could wire in white/red switchback LED's to work as reverse or brake lights if you wanted to be D*mn sure someone knows you are braking.

Not factory at least, I don't know if Shark or ExLED has anything in work.

Depends how you look at it - Hyundai is playing a bit of games with it, I think.

For example - if you look at a 2012 Focus Titanium - it claims to have fog lights, but they are really driving lights, but they turn off with the high beams (by law in some states).

On the 2017 E SE Tech and above, it has LED DRL's, but they are in the fog light locations - I suspect they are really more like driving lights, but you can keep them on with the high-beams - but maybe the light output is not enough to consider them driving lights either.

I'm sure some here might look at this video thinking why would you need two gear selector displays...the simple answer would be, b/c it can be done. Jk. I would have preferred the limited and sport models to have this feature minus the illuminated display at the bottom.

I've seen that on eBay. Reminds me of the BMW shifter. It's cool, but it seems like a LOT of work for something that not a lot of people will see.

^^ Alright tiger heli

I'm going to deeply modify my car once the sport model is available. I will swap out the rear reflectors in the first month with these moving led lights

If everything arrives to the states with the same DRL as pictured below, I will also swap out the factory DRL for the set in the video below and replace them into the factory location.

I'm "considering" these for the rear. I can't make sense out of the INCOBB website. Gonna try to find someone here at the hospital with Korean heritage to interpret the writings.

That rear reflector replacement unit is kind of mesmerizing doing its dance across the bumper facia.

I'll do the rear bumper reflector swap for LED's on whatever car I get.

The "dancing" rear leds are a bit too KITT (Knight-Rider) for me.

I can't tell what the MJ works exhaust does - i.e is it just a blower that senses engine rpm and makes the sounds, or does it play through the stereo speakers, or ...

Personally, I'm old enough that I like not being able to tell if the engine is running unless I look at the tach and old-school enough that if I DID want to hear the exhaust, I would look into flowmaster or some type of cat-back system, but ...

Two thumbs up! At my age, "silence is golden." But there was a time. Either I've grown up or grown older. Maybe a bit of both. And that's okay, too!

Say...you wouldn't be a cop would ya...officer? I'm kidding. I can see this being a concern. No one can really say for certain here since it would depend on the laws in your state.

I know if I ever received a citation, I would play it off all silly like..."what...they do what officer??" It would be extremely rare a cop catches this. He would have to actually notice your turn single, then see the reflector resets to where it moves back-and-forth.

#45 ·
Typically yes - but it is up to the local police and jurisdiction.

You can buy a flasher module which will flash the third brake light 3x and then constant when you stop.

As far as the moving lights - the applicable law in most states would be that the lights cannot make people confuse the car with an emergency vehicle. Locally for me, that was pretty much enough to eliminate red or blue undercar lighting or those red or blue washer nozzle "eye" lights they used to sell - although in theory green, purple, or pink would be fine.

I could see it being questionable, but I think most states would consider it legal.

I'd say this is probably accurate. Except for Illinois, where everything that isn't OEM is illegal.

I know you can have strobe lights and flashers, so long as they're not red or blue in most states, so I don't see why these would be any different.

Personally, though, I'd take the extra step and change out the turn signal bulb for LED. I think it looks a little silly with 2 different types of bulbs flashing in the rear.

@Tiger-Heli: Son's girlfriend received a "strong" warning about her washer nozzle lights. Told to remove them, ASAP. Thrn l, told to report to the station that she could show compliance.

Only police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency vehicles are allowed to have red or blue lights outside the "normal OEM brake light lenses." Oklahoma, that is...

She replaced them with green ones. On a blue Ford! Seriously?

Having any lights on the hood in front of the windshield is a stupid idea. It decreases your ability to see the road ahead.

(Hey acebmxer) I knew sooner or later someone would post this! This will void your engine/trans warranty. Unless you're really good at working on cars and willing to pay on a device that will clear your history on the car computer. I suggest staying away from any engine mods period. It's your car...do as you will. Personally, I would do it. I learned a long time ago how to cover my a**.

My buddy had an RS7 and wanted to add the APR ECU upgrade.

https://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_upgrade_40tfsi_c75s6s7.html

He chickened out in the end. i trust big name companies like APR. I wouldn't trust companies I've never heard or let alone make parts for the daily driver type vehicle when it comes to heavy mods as the ECU chips.

#54 ·
I wasn't necessarily thinking of putting on my 2017. I just thinking in general, and they stated changes are reverted once unplugged. And will not void warranty.

Will this product void my warranty?

No! it will not void your warranty, many dealers frown on any performance upgrades. However, under the law, the manufacturer cannot void your warranty for adding aftermarket parts. The unit removes as easily as it installs. So it can be removed before taking the vehicle to the dealer for service. This is the easist way to avoid any dealer concerns.

This is BS!!!

They cannot void your warranty for using a Fram oil filter that meets that specs of the Hyundai-Filter, unless they can show that the Fram oil filter somehow led to oil starvation that caused the engine to fail.

They CERTAINLY can void you warranty for an Engine/ECU modification that runs the timing too advanced or the mixture too lean and damages the engine.

I'm not saying it will damage the engine, but I wouldn't plan on the warranty holding up if it did do so.

A car manufactor has to honor their warranty for the vehicle unless the person modifyies the car, and if that is done, the part being modified has to have caused the problem that needs warranty repairs. Example, engine problems with car and the shop won't fix it because the person spliced into their lights to add LED's. They can't do that...the shop has to repair the car.
That's the law - http://www.hyundai-forums.com/yf-2011-sonata-i45/116749-will-i-void-my-warranty.html - but there's a member who can't get his cruise control repaired b/c the car USED to have HID's and they say those damaged the module, I think it's BS, but if you have to take it to arbitration and argue your case, that isn't comforting ...

Dealing with authorities on any level, it's best to think fast and be calm.
Best bet is to be nonchalant and say as little as possible.

"Do you know why I pulled you over?"

"Well, I didn't mean to steal the car after I robbed the bank, but my getaway driver took off, so I didn't have a choice!!!"

"Well, actually, your left tail-light was out, but since you mentioned it ..."

"Do you know what the speed limit is on this road?"

"Ermmn, 45 or so, I might have been going a bit over that, I was trying to stay with the flow of traffic."

Often, though, if he already has the ticket book out, it doesn't matter what you say ...

#58 ·
Yep, if the book is in his hand, you can bet there is a pen, nearby. About the only thing that can save you is producing a badge to indicate you're a fellow "brother in blue."
