LED bulbs for license plate lights

Hello everyone

I want to put some white LEDs in the license plate lights. I know that the bulb is W5W with a T10 socket, but it's coming into the light enclosure at an angle.
Unfortunately, "normal" T10 LEDs usually fire their light in a directional beam covering at most 180 degrees in the front. Given that they come at an angle, the few T10 LEDs I've had around give a much worse light than the standard W5W incandescent bulbs, lighting up only the first and las quarter of the license plate (the incandescent light is better diffused and covers all of the plate).

Have you had any experience with bulbs that spread the light better (perhaps using multiple LEDs or at an angle that would cancel out the enclosure's angle?

P.S.: What kind of screws did they use for those license plate lights? I've tried both Philips and Pozi drivers and they look like they'd rather strip instead of unscrewing (had to press really hard on the driver while increasing torque to start loosening it and still it messed up the screw head a little)

In North America the screws on the Santa Fe are #2 Phillips head. If corrosion is a problem to the point you can't unscrew them with a screw driver, some people have had to resort to removing the trim panel on the inside of the lift gate and getting to them from the inside.

For the type bulbs used over the license plate, as well as the map lights, on my 2012 Santa Fe, look here:
VLEDS
My license plate lights and all interior lighting are now LEDs from this supplier. I used the less bright, longer life LEDs. They are brighter than the incandescent bulbs and the light is white, not bluish. The ones at the top of the list may be preferable to the ones third on the list, which are the ones I used.

The ones I use have 5 leds on each, one on each side and one at the tip. Lights up the plate area very well. Standard 194 based.

I have a bin full of them, generic from EBay.

2014 Elantra Sport 2.0 6M Shimmering Silver. LED interior lights, cargo mat and net. 35/20% tint. LED tag and back up lights. LED fogs. LED headlights, homelink.
2016 Tucson Sport 1.6T 7A Caribbean Blue. Hitch, tint, mudguards, homelink, cargo cover, LED back up and tag lights, power pass seat lumbar installed, LED fogs, aftermarket crossbars for the roof.

I used Sylvania ZEVO 194 bulbs which are available at most local auto parts stores and Wal-Mart. They work just fine and light up the license plate area very well. Replaced the bulbs right at the store parking lot...very easy.

Thanks DSHornet, I'm certainly looking forward to buying something with a more spread pattern (the ones I tried it look like the last 2 models on the link you provided).
The car is brand new (got it in March, papers say it was built in 2017) so corrosion is not the issue. They're just very stiff and stuck in there good. The fact that their threads are huge doesn't help either, looks like Hyundai thought I might be hanging my shopping from the light enclosure.
If you've done any woodworking, they feel like screwing into oak without a pilot hole...

solman98, mine have only the LED at the tip. I don't have any bulbs with LEDs on the sides, that's why I was looking for recommendations. Ebay takes about a month to deliver where I'm from so I'd prefer to get the right kind from the start...

Solman98s should work fine.

I used these - 2X T10 168 194 W5W 6LED 5630-SMD Pure White Car Side Wedge Backup Light Bulb 12V | eBay - but they died in less than a month.

I'm using Philips now which are rated to last long, but are whiter, but not much brighter than stock.

I like the looks on paper of these:

New T10 Canbus Error Free Wedge 8-SMD White 5730 5630 Led light w5w 194 1pc DF | eBay

Bulb Lamp T10 W5W Cree LED Car LED Marker Light White DC 12V 15-SMD 4014 | eBay

2Pcs White 2 LED 5630 SMD T10 W5W Wedge Lens Light Car Vehicle Bulb Lamp DC 12V | eBay

2 pcs W5W 2825 T10 T15 921 912 906 Canbus Error Free Samsung 3w LED Lights New | eBay

But can't talk to fitment, light output, or reliability.
