I've heard this sound too - but not always. I had forgotten about it until I read your post today. I'll mention to SM the next time I have the car serviced.

Hello, I started this thread last year, that is my YouTube video, I am taking my car back in today and demanding a fix because I can not stand the noise anymore. Please email me if you get any updates, and I will post accordingly.

Yeah, I'd like to hear about any updates on your part as well... it's definitely something faulty or way out of tolerance.

I did happen to notice mine making noise on the freeway today as well... although, it's not as noticeable as the stop and go of city streets.

I'm at the service center now and posting this as a reference for the technicians.

The link below has three recordings of the rattling sound and one that records the sound disappearing when the fan is activated.

Well, all I can say at this point is that it's not the expansion valve...

Unfortunately, that was the diagnosis... yet after having it replaced last week... it did not resolve the problem.

As soon as the service was complete, I drove away and heard the noise... I pulled a u-turn and went back into the dealership. The service manager and an advisor took the car out for a spin with me in the back. We could all hear the rattling... so now, it looks like I'll have to reschedule another visit and drive a rental car for the day while they try to figure this one out...

I think we all suspect something with the turbo at this point.

This sound is annoying to me, happens quite often until I have to force my ac to quiet it down.

Any updates anyone who has gotten this fixed?

I haven't had a good opportunity to take the car back in for further review. They asked me to leave the car with them for the day and my schedule has been a bit too busy to make it back to the dealership.

Also, I'm not real excited about being a Guinea Pig on this one... I was hoping that the factory techs would already know the source and have a repair plan for this issue (which seems others have as well) after hearing the recordings I posted.

Anyone else hear that sound?

Garage
I can't hear it all that well, but I think I had the same thing. One of the bolts holding the heat shield together came loose. It would rattle on start up and rattle at certain engine RPMs or road conditions. I didn't have time to take it in, since I was fairly certain, but I took a corner and heard a tinktinktink and sure enough a bolt had fallen out and was skittering across the road. After that it got worse, of course.

Not sure if that's your case, but from what I'm hearing it sounds about the same.

Do you know any satisfying profanity?!

To me this sound is coming from inside not outside of the car...The first thing I would check is the fan especially there can be some obstacles inside.... This is not DCT problem for sure....

I think is

If under acceleration you hear this sound then at this case it would be a generator clutch, it has a drum on which the belt goes (with grooves). It is necessary in order to suppress the belt oscillations and not to give the pulley a twitch in the opposite direction. Diagnostic is simple - on N push the gas full down and right away shut down the engine. If you can hear this s ound - you are on the right track.
