PROBLEM: Cold engine/Thermostat????

Few days ago we started to have 0F or -4F (up to -40C) interior gets kinda frozen: seats don't move fast - which is normal actually, got some rattle at the empty trunk, tailgate closes kinda rush making some sort of noises..However heating seats work just awesome, in 5-10sec max you must lower down to 1 out of 3 position...steering wheel heating works awesome, it needs just 5-10secs also to become hot...

If before (we didn't have such cold weather last year) I turn SW off in 1 mins since it started to be really hot, now have to drive with on all times, it is hot, but easy can be managed bare hand.

However there is a problem:
if you drive for hours within city limits below ~30-40mph your engine will be always cold, never goes even to 1...!
when you hit highways and reach above ~60mph your engine will be normal. Also, when you slow down and speed drops below again 30-40 you will see how temperature will go slowly down, just in front of your eyes!

Last year they replaced thermostat as was TSB issues as we all know, however I think this is not normal at all! Temperature stays Hi all times on the display and an interior air isn't cold like on the street, but a lilbit warmer...

I drove today for 2 hours and saw this behavior! Also the milage risen up, normally was having 8l/100km, now is 11! Tomorrow will go to the city and will take video. Right away when I pass 60mph I will get thermostat at normal warmed position. I think this is not normal and must be addressed to the dealer and hyundai!

any of you guys face same problem?

Yes i have same problem. I live in cold Saskatchewan. Having heated seats and heated steering wheel, makes it somewhat more tolerable. In -20 or colder conditions, in city driving, the engine never gets to normal operating temps. This engine has the poorest warm up of any car i have ever owned. I like the Tucson, but it not a very warm winter car.

Agreed. It's a cold sucker. We're having some -20C weather here and it takes way too long to warm up. My old truck with a big iron V8 warms up quicker ... and that is not a compliment.

The heated seats and steering wheel are nice. But, even those are a long way from "instant".

Drove home last night over about 1 inch of fresh snow. Somewhat packed. Not plowed. Drove like a charm. Even the long hill we live on, which I have walked up many times in the past, presented no problems. I do have nice Nokian snow tires. And my Tucson is AWD.

I was right today. When I hit the hway from my home, it is about 5-10mins drive on cold engine, then tight away Ive got normal temperature.
Last year when we had recall or sort, dealer change the thermostat, however now it goes back.....Will need to make complain on monday...

This is not a diesel for bloody blodyhel, why it does like that, Also, an idea of having some sort of blanket in the grill might block turbine works bad, don't you think?

I find that I need to increase the heat setting lots when starting up. Normally I have the dial set to 22 or 23 C. For the first 10 minutes or so in the cold I crank it to 28 or 29. Once the car warms up, I dial it back to 23.

BTW, this is stupid. My previous 2013 Sonata had a near perfect climate control.

Have the slow warm up issue also. Living in MN we get the arctic polar air coming down with the Jet all winter. MN is the coldest place in the US. Not proud of that it just is. Anyway, with temps finally plummeting into the sub zero range the darn Tucson takes forever to warm up. I can let it idol in the drive for 10 minutes and it still reads cold. Takes driving it around for several miles to get it moving. It will move to just below the 1/2 way mark but not for a long long time. Quick trips to the store suck. It never gets warm.

My Charger warms up fast. But thats a 6.4l V8. That car is toasty warm.

today weather drops to -10C and everything went back to normal! Hows that!?

BTW: my truck during these 2 weeks was showing TPMS sensors alarm, first for the front and then for all wheels. I was thinking that my tire shop didn't do job right when I replaced winter tires and they broke sensors....but today, everything also disappeared!

Autozone shows a 98C/192F t-stat and it says OE temp rating. Is that the OE temp rating? I put one similar in my Accent (OE is 180F) and although it does not speed the warm up, it does get quite a bit more heat when it is warmed up. I also have the entire front of the condenser blocked off. Not a problem until the temps get into the 60Fs.

Have you plugged in a OBDII reader to see what the actual temp it runs at is? The factory gauge is probably not very accurate.

Any of you people check your water temp sending unit . I have 2013 and 2019 tucson`s with the 2.4l , but this was a notorious part failure on my 2003 vw golf and other vws, this would cause same issues of water temp needle floating up and down and cooling fans running or not running when they were suppose too. I haven`t read or been able to find any info on how our cooling systems work, but vw wont even open thermostat to flow through radiator till engine gets too hot as it just pushes coolant through engine block in a loop. Where as my old 1993 isuzu rodeo when it was warm you could watch coolant flowing continuously through radiator cap. Anyone know how are cooling system`s operate?
