Lightbulb Tucson 2017 Xenon replacement for High beam

So, the new Tucson comes with LED Low beam and Halogen(!) low beam. At least the european spec. Not to be a grumpy old man (I really am ) but in the year of 2016 and soon 2017, not using at least Xenon feels a bit cheap to me.

I wanted to check with you guys if anyone have tried a HID conversion for the High beam? Make/model, Canbus issues, and so forth.

Or even better if anyone tried a LED conversion. To my knowledge though, the LED technology for easy retrofitting is still not there yet. Having said that though, I would love to be miserably put down as poorly informed and a non-believer!

Present and past drives: Hyundai Tucson 1.6 T-GDI DCT-7 4wd -16, Audi A6 Allr 3.0 TDI -15, Audi A6 Av 3.0 -13, Audi A4 Allr 1.8 TFSI -11, Audi A4 Av 1,8 TFSI -09, Audi/MTM 240 -00, BMW 325 -06, BMW 328 -96, BMW 325 -92, MB C180 -13

my experience is from the way the headlights were designed, its so tough putting "larger" sized LED's into the housing properly.

Tried installing LEDs with the CPU sized heatsinks and it cant even go through the dust cap. then i installed LEDs with the ribbon style heatsinks and stuffed them inside, but then i get intermittent warnings saying my high beams aren't working (even though they are) and from the way the LEDs were designed, they were not any higher than the stock LED low beams so essentially no difference.

i gave up and just bought upgraded "xenon blue" halogen bulbs for now. i am curious if anyone managed to stuff xenons with their huge ballasts inside tho

Check out this thread. I replaced the stock high beams with Philips halogens that are 5000K. They are nearly as white as my 6000K HIDs

I installed LED R3 9600lm (from Aliexpress, 40$/pair) on low and high beam (base model). For low beam you need adaptor, not needed for high beam, fit perfectly inside of housing, no canbus error.

Huge improvement over yellow stock halogen.

Big thanks! Did you try with resistors as well?

Thanks! Looks good. Also, a very good description in this thread.

For me, HID is prefered over Halogen because of many things. For example the lifetime, can be put directly into a Halogen reflector, length light image. LED would be even better, imo but, as it seems, more difficult to find in of the shelf - straight into the socket kits..

Halogen with blue filter would not be my first choice..

Interesting!
Did the LEDs come with built-in CANBUS resistors or do you use resistors outside of the light housing? (Or do you live with a constant warning? )
Can you share some pictures from the installation?
How was the range and width effected?

I did it, swapped halogen to HIDs. Plz give yourself a good thumb up and get morimoto, as you gonna get what you pay for! There is my thread how-to-do it as well.

1. you need can bus HIDs
2. you need load resistors.
everything for both lights and morimoto`s are the best over cheap chinese stuff, at least they won't blow up in a week after installation.
Polaraco likes this.
