any detailing enthusiasts here? I'm going to be applying Liquid Glass/detailing "Abril", my '16 Sport
after I got him back post-accident, the paint feels gritty/rough and not smooth like before
so I'm going to wash, clay it, the works and using Liquid Glass on it but hoping others can recommend something similar/even better than LG..
NOTE: ONLY Recommend something that can be applied in sunlight (ie: Turtle Wax Ice Wax Spray) because I do not have a covered garage to apply other products like opticoat/quartz/etc in
I switched from LG to the Zaino products years ago. Their products are very nice. You'll need to find shade from a building or a tree though to apply them. Sometimes I apply it at night if the humidity is low enough then do a final hand-buff the next day.
- Meguiar's smooth car clay kit (gotta clay it cuz the paint feels gritty which started this whole detail biz for me)
- Liquid Glass (imma let this badboy bake and apply at least 2 coats
- Armor All Outlast? it's that brake dust thingie for the rims.. although i'm thinking of applying LG to the rims as well, lol!
I wipe mine down with McGuire's Xwax spray wax after each wash. If you want to wax it with a non spray product I like McGuire's tech wax 2.0. you can get liquid or paste which ever you prefer.
After sundown only works if humidity is very low. If there's too much humidity you're going to wear your arms off getting the wax off! It may also swirl, esp if using a buffer.
I have probably used every wax out there over the years. In fact I detailed cars part time for a few years for extra cash.
If your paint is gritty, use the clay or an orbital buffer with the appropriate compounds.
If your paint is clean and smooth, use Mequiars Ultimate.
Can find it at Walmart for under $20. It goes on easy, buffs off easy and you can go over black trim & moulding, chrome, windows, etc and it will not leave any white residue.
Had a ceramic coating done on my car, a bit over a thousand dollars but it has a 5 year warranty. Only downside is the body isnt reflecting smoothly, it has these tiny smooth waves everywhere
Upsides, you can wipe off weeks of dust with a finger swipe so its easy to clean with a duster and the water beads off like its on butter. The paintwork is protected too and it always has this "just waxed" shine after a wash. Got mine done from foilack.com but im sure other "Ceramic coats" do the same job
so pampered Abril yesterday.. really.. it's tough to see detailing on a WHITE CAR.. the reflections/etc you guys see people post or if you do a search are mostly on colored cars which provide the "mirror effect"
it's not as evident on white cars unfortunately
i applied 2 coats of Liquid Glass (4 hours between coats).. overall I like it.. but I'm mostly impressed at the difference CLAYING the car made..
that's how this all started after I got Abril back from the car shop and being gone for 2 weeks I noticed how rough and gritty the paint felt.. even car washing did not get rid of "the feel" of the paint.. well, claying did the job can't recommend it enough.. the paint/hood/etc feels so smooth now when i run my finger over it..
that being said, i will probably apply a 3rd Liquid Glass coating this coming weekend and maybe a finisher/sealant/something from Zaino.. not sure yet definitely felt good pampering the car.. the funny thing is I was on the lot at Autozone and others would stop by and say "no good, you're doing it in direct sunlight, that's no good" which i appreciated but that's the whole point of LG.. you can use it in direct sunlight (even better)
Clays bar is essential. Check into adams polishes. They have many promotional/marketing videos on YouTube. These products are amazing, I have never seen my Tucson shine as much as it does after using their products. I am not a paid rep or anything I just love how they make my car look.
Granted, white isn't your most reflective color. Those deep reds, blues, the blacks, etc. really have a way of drawing your attention. Have to find happiness in "cooler interiors in the summer, better visibility at night, better at hiding dirt, resale appeal, stuff like that.
But what you're doing is great. Protect that finish. And claying, although a PITA when done correctly, makes a HUGE difference. But you can still get a deep reflective shine on white paint. I offer one example, below, of my Elantra's hood:
oh not saying it can't be done but also where you take the pictures matter a great deal.. in the shade i find is best.. i was taking mine in direct sunlight, the light drowned out the reflections >
still, overall it's a worthy investment considering the time-vs-effort wasn't all that much
didn't really take too many pics or even bother setting it up for a pictorial, just took a pic
like i said, it isn't like everyone's staged proper lighting with proper background to show reflections, but i like it.. i think i'm going to coat it a 3rd time this weekend and seal it off further with a Zaino product or something, lol
I've never owned anything other than large sedans before the Tucson. I've never sweat so much detailing a vehicle. For what it is worth, Gold Class Premium Quick Wax can also be applied in the sun. I have better reflection with that compared to Turtle.
well, nyc has had a weird weather spell recently.. probably due to the hurricane moving slowly off-coast dragging all this rain and gloomy weather our way.. seriously haven't seen the sun in what feels like a month now (it's only been 2 weeks prolly)
anyways.. it rained all day thursday, sporadic rains friday.. Saturday I went out and got Abril (yes, in nyc, days can go by without actually using the car!)
anyhows i wanted to see how the Liquid Glass coating would work after a cold gloomy rainy week.. well, it worked out fabulously!! paint still feels smooth as glass (thanks to the wonderful claying i did before applying LG) and the water has sure enough.. BEADED right off!
can't wait until the sun returns.. going to apply a 3rd and maybe a 4th coat of LG
Can you explain this product further? It's basically a paint sealant?
