Has anyone upgraded their rear reflectors? Either from ExLeds or any led reflectors? Just wondering where you tapped the wires for them. Thanks

@jcgarcia: I installed them on my 2017 Elantra. Also installed a set on the 2013 E. Love the look!

Mine required removing the rear bumper for access to the screws. It wasn't as hard as I had made it out to be. Pretty simple and straightforward. Take your time, check out a YouTube video, and you'll be fine. Use caution on the section where bumper mates up with the fender panel. Plastic trim tools are necessary to prevent you from scratching the paint.

There are plastic, molded clips that hold the two together. You don't want to break any of those. Use firm, steady pressure, working from bottom, to top. This is all orovided, of course, that bumper removal is necessary to gain access. You may get lucky.

Re: light/wiring hook-up. I used Scotchlocks (aka "spline-splice?")and tapped right into the taillight wires. Each side. There's ample wire coming off the LED reflectors to hide it and still reach the taillight modules.

You will need to trim back 3", or so, of the protective wire tubing. Think of opening up a drinking straw with scissors. The wires are loosely running inside the tubing.

Elantra taillight wire color code (yours may be different...but can't imagine Hyundai NOT using same color format across all the model lines):
Black is ground,
Red is taillight and,
Pink is brake light.

Press the brake pedal. If brake lights activate, you're on go. If not, switch the Red and Pink wires.

Hey,

Did you go ahead and upgrade your reflectors? I have been looking at the ones LED Bumper - Type SR ones from Shark racing. See attached pictures from shark racing website. Look good, but priced at $165. Will probably go ahead in the new y ear.

I've had the LED rear reflectors sitting in my garage but have been reluctant to install them. Ideally I want them as rear fog lights but don't see the wiring for them on the US Tucson. Also, they don't have reflectors built into the lenses like the stock one's have. Just my concern for visibility parked at night.

Tony,

Thanks for the information. I had wondered if they had the reflectors.... The reflectors that you have, are they from shark racing? They advertise two sets:

(1) The first picture with the curve lights are newly manufactured for a factory look

(2) The second picture with the leds are a modified OEM factory ones with COB leds.

They are both advertised as reflectors so I would have assumed they would have reflectors built in just like the stock ones - I will confirm with sharkracing. If yours are from sharkracing, then it is concerning that they don't have the reflectors built in for the night visibility issue you mentioned.

I am not sure about your wiring problem, I just thought they wired into the regular parking/driving and brake lights at the back.

If it is you want them to light up when you turn on the fog lights, then you probably have to run the wiring from the fog lights to the back. Interesting idea though.

You could probably have them powered from two sources - either the fog lights and the driving/park lights for lower leds and upper leds from brake lights. That way when you use the fog lights the lower led reflectors are on and if you're not using the fog lights then the lower leds are on when you turn on the driving lights. The upper leds would be for the brake lights could be always used.

Another combination would be to have the lower leds on when using the fog lights and the upper ones with the driving lights and not use the brake lights etc...

I did a little research through the UK Tucson's owners manual and it comes with the option for rear fog lights. It's on the same stalk as the front fogs but has a separate position. I was hoping that the US spec Tucson was prewired but it appears it isn't. Confirmed this when I had access to the Hyundai Service webpage when installing my stereo upgrade. So thanks for the suggestions but I want to eventuallly install them after acquiring the right hardware.

To the OP.

They are around $80 on E-bay: tucson 2016 LED rear reflector | eBay

Not sure on the Tucson, but on the MD Elantra and RB Accent - there is a very short wire harness that plugs into the taillights between that and the main harness. It's around $15 to replace and around 4-5 inches long, so you probably have to remove the taillights and the harness to splice into it. I would use that, though, b/c if you ever need to remove the LED's (car totalled, selling the car for the same model, dealer warranty issue with the taillights and wire splices), you only have to pay $30 to go back to stock.

Thanks for the link, I think these are the LEDs only that you have to attach to the factory reflectors - I think this is nice option compared to buying the whole reflector and leds at double the price.

They're required here in the US as well as amber side reflectors on the front and red on the back that illuminate when headlights are switched on. Mpcp27, I bought the one's with the outline and they don't reflect light, they only have a textured chromed surface underneath the red lense.
Ah, I understand now you bought the outline ones that don't have the reflector. Thanks for the update.

The Indian model Tucson comes with rear fog lamps ( with regular bulb) as standard equipment, though they are not LED. The Creta or ix25 fog lamps / reflectors do not fit the Tucson, i have already tried the same and failed.

Its a regulatory requirement here to have rear fog lamps.

Metalspree, can you check how much your reflectors costs in India and shipping to Canada by registered mail if you have some time? Thanks

Here are pics of my rear fog lamps , let me if this is what you want?. Shipping out via EMS is about 500 INR per kg which translates to $10CAD

Close up pic of the fog lamp

Here is a pic when rear fog lamps are turned on

They may not be available with Hyundai service folks because the car has been released here just 3 weeks ago. In India parts are available in stores as well but needs some time for them to arrive in market, ideally another 1 month. The cost difference between Hyundai and store is close to 50%. Stores are usually cheap.

thanks, ok no problem, I gonna buy it within next 3 weeks in europe...Do you think that cretas reflectors from my post might work for retrofit on tucson?

I did install mine and as stated by @Tucson Tony they don't reflect at night so i connected to the brake lights meaning they're always on when the lights are switched on. The other issue is that aftermarket reflectors are a tad bit short, its not as flushed as the oem and there is a slim gap. All in all I'm satisfied with it and how it looks on the car.

Looks good. Did you get yours the same place that Tony got his? Ebay? Or from Shark Racing? When you say they are a bit shorter than oem, could post a pic about what you mean? Do you mean they are a bit recessed so they are not flush with the bodywork? or they are not long enough and there is an actual small gap at one end to the body work?

It also looks like you changed out the license plate lights for something brighter

Thanks.

I gonna buy set of EDM rear reflectors using halogen bulb in 2 weeks since now.......LOL I think these would be good to have and easy to retrofit or use some LED bulb then...many choices.
