UPDATE: Android Auto & Apple CarPlay In Canada

As many of you know, I am a blogger and car reviewer as well as being a Tucson owner. I've been tracking this issue regarding the availability (or lack of availability) of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in Canada. Long story short, I had an interview with Hyundai Canada this morning and I will be writing a story on this issue in the next 24 to 48 hours. While this will be a bit of a spoiler, I truly believe that there's a lot of moving pieces here that have clouded the issue and after this conversation with Hyundai Canada which I will share with you via the article that I am writing, I hope to clear the air and give you the facts on this situation.

Related to this, while I was tracking this issue, I've received help from many of you on this board when it comes to tips and information. I would like to thank you for helping me with this as I don't think I could have written about this to any degree without your help.

What a helpful thread! My infotaining system is now capable to use Apple carplay and Android auto(System version 10.5). I purchased $175USD($245CAD) package from Mnsoft , downloaded 11.5GB on PC and then purchase a Sandisk extreme 32GB SD card(90MB/s readspeed and 60MB/s Writespeed) for $20CAD from Canadacomputers. About 20mins on installing program to SD card and 25 mins on upgrading infotaining system on Tucson(8" screen). All done. glhf

Hey ricky, i odered mine from ebay. V10.5 - 2017 Hyundai TUCSON Navigation SD Card Update MAP w/ User Manual OEM LATEST | eBay. I was wondering if you were computer savy enough to upload the update folder of the SD card to the internet just to see if the software versions are the sale as the SD card that came from the factory. If not can you take a pic of the system menu to see if the software versions match up.

Looks like the SD cards are built a little different.

On the left is my V.10 card from MNSoft, notice the folder structure is a little different... and on the right is the SD card i got off Ebay from the factory. Some folders are not there...

Does anyone have a screenshot of the software version in their Tucson of version 10.5 from MNSoft or a screen shot of their folder structure of the SD card of version 10.5 built from MNSoft.

I have a feeling there might be a slight difference in software versions.

I'm not 100% sure that the one's you can find on ebay would in fact work on our system, i personally bought the first update (ver 10 i think) on MNSoft. After i purchased it from the site and downloaded the data, i had to install a program from MNSoft on my pc that would write the software to the oem sd card that came with the car. At first i was hesitant to do it as it would override the previous version, not sure if you can use other sd card that might be compatible. So i decided to go through with it, it asked for the vehicles vin number and i think it asked for the device id number (located on the system info on the navi system). Once everything was written and installed on the card, they have a step by step process on how to do the update. It took me roughly about 40 minutes, its been i think 7 months and not once its given me any problems. Not sure about the price difference between doing it through MNSoft and through the dealership, and my version came with both AA and CarPlay, not sure if the new version comes with both.

I bought a Hyundai Navigation update with the Apple Car Play in eBay. Unfortunately it doesn't work. It gives me a message like check the storage capacity etc. I don't think its compatible to Canadian cars. The SD card is an official Hyundai USA card.

Anyone knows how to work this through? Thanks

I had a 2015 Ram 1500 Truck that would receive texts on the head unit. You could listen to them and reply to them hands free. Is that what "CarPlay" is all about? If so, is it something they flash to your OEM head unit? Is it available in Canada? And is it free or something you have to pay for at the dealer like map updates?

You can buy it from MnSoft. But I still do not have any word if it will be offered as a free update. There have been rumors from others on the forum that it will be, but I cannot confirm or deny that.

As for what's unique about the head unit..... There's no BlueLink hardware for starters.

I want to update this thread with some news. Now please understand that I only share what I know to be complete and accurate, and I will share more information as I get it and confirm it to be factual.

I have talked to several people at Hyundai Canada. Many off the record, but some on background. Between the two, I can confirm that what kookie_guy is saying is completely factual. In other words, Hyundai Canada is working on offering these updates to a broader selection of vehicles and model years. I do not have a definitive timeline, but my sense is that announcement is coming shortly.

I promise that as soon as I get anything, I will let you know the second that I know. But it is possible that kookie_guy may beat me to the punch given what he has uncovered. :)

We can double team, lol. They are running into issues at pretty well every step of the way. I don't know what those issues are, but they've had setbacks after setbacks. When I bought the car a year ago it was already in the works, just keeps getting delayed. But they're getting close now, so it's just a matter of time.

We found a workaround for Sonata, works perfectly - look towards the end posts..it costs money but this might work with other models


I was able to update my 2016 Sonata with the assistance from that thread. Of course now I am wondering if Hyundai actually does release an official update for more of their cars and years then how difficult will it be to reverse the update back to the CA version of the software? I guess we will see.
