Unfortunately, I cannot speak to that. Everything that I know definitively is in the article that I posted. But if I do find out any additional info, I will pass it along in the form of an update.

I get the sense from my interview today that they really want to and are really trying. In the meantime, MnSOFT seems to be the way to go if you want to pay up.

I'm looking at this from as neutral of a perspective as I can be considering I own a 2016 Tucson which means I have skin in the game.

None of us were promised by Hyundai Canada (by that I mean their corporate offices and not your local dealer) that this update would be free. Nor in the media lead up and the corporate marketing stuff done by Hyundai Canada that I have laid eyes on was this ever promised to be free or even possible. Now the Americans did promise this and I am guessing that that we in Canada would expect the same treatment. So far that doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe that will never be the case. So I don't think that it is fair to hold Hyundai Canada to something that they most likely never said, promised, or committed to.

Here's the flip side of this argument. Ford and FCA are two companies who have offered up these sorts of upgrades for free. Sure you can make an argument that Hyundai Canada should do the same for nothing more than optics reasons. And for the record, I have made that exact argument as consumers these days expect the infotainment systems in their cars to be just like their phones. As in, the manufacturer should serve up upgrades that consumers can do for free. But there's nothing that says that they have to. Perhaps it is something that they will consider going forward.

Please keep in mind I am not defending Hyundai Canada. I am simply offering up an alternate perspective.

According to their rep. they refer to Hyundai Canada's answer

Here is the screencap of the chat session.

Edit : I was writing while you were ordering . I seriously hope it works! Thank you for everrything
We will see. I just got an e-mail from MnSOFT saying that my order has shipped and will arrive tomorrow. Since I ordered an SD card, I can do the upgrade as soon as I get it and I can have some feedback on this.

Awesome, Will order tomorrow depending on how this goes.
While free would be great $300 is not the end of the world on a 40K car.

How does the installation work? Would it be possible to pool with everyone in here.... and distribute the update? :S

That's doubtful. It comes on a SD Card and you need it to upgrade and it has to stay in the head unit. You can apparently get it without one, but you need a validation code if I am not mistaken.

Instructions are here:

http://www.hyundai-gpsmap.ca/downloa...da_preview.pdf

This seems to only refer to the process to update via SD Card.

So - if we gather... 10 people... $30 each + tax... can you share said contents in the SD Card? Haha. I mean - it's probably way cheaper just to buy a SD card from the local Canada Computers/NCIX and copy that stuff over.

It's just dumb how they are charging for updates. That's like saying if Facebook and Google charged for every update on your phone................

Hard to say. I suppose it is technically possible. But I'd think that they have some sort of copy protection to keep you from doing this sort of thing.

You have to log back into MnSoft website and input :
Your device ID : 10 Digits
Your VIN : 17 Digits

Then they will generate a 16 digits Authentification code.

So the authentification code is not random. It is generated from the 2 known numbers.

If The_It_Nerd is willing to share at least the data on the SD card he receive, maybe somebody can look at it and come up with something.
