Code P0401:

I have had a check engine light on for the past few months and I finally got around to getting it to AutoZone to have it read today. They claime its the EGR valve throwing the code. I would love to just take this off and clean it with carb cleaner and a toothbrush and then replace using a new gasket BUT, how hard is it to get the EGR valve off. I know its under the throttle body but wasn't sure if this is the only way to clean it or if I can run seafoam through the gas and oil a couple times and that would work? One other thing bothering me about the read is that the autozone didnt have an actual set of hyundai codes so he used a mitsu code which he claims will be the same with this type of error. I did see a Kia section though so i went by that.

Sorry for the book but wanted to be as thorough as possible. BTW this is a 04 GL with a 2.4 A/T 73K.

Dear monster,

http://www.obd-codes.com/

The EGR is not difficult to get off with the right wrenches. I got a set of Sears combination metric wrenchs for Xmas with the slim ratchet on the one end, the open wrench jaw on the other end. These can go places no combination of universal sockets can go(i.e. the lower row of exhaust manifold bolts on the 2.4 liter).
