Default 2001 Santa Fe rough idle, rpm rev, power loss, stall and possible electrical problem

I just bought a used 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe and I drove it for about a month and now I can't get it to run...91k miles while driving when I pushed on the gas it would sometimes feel like the fuel pump was going out. Check engine light came on code read that it was the MAF sensor (I replaced it) drove fine then started to idle rough and when car was running in park with no one in the vehicle the engine would rev up as though someone was pressing on the gas. happened a few times. rpms would fluctuate when stopped at a light. so the car was progressively getting worse. then one when driving home the car would not go over 35mph and that's with the pedal to the floor. Car stalled and died. I started it back up and it started but still would not go over 35mph. i pulled over and called a friend. friend showed up about 40 minutes later took a look at the car and said it was out of gas. put gas in it started car up fine drove it to gas station and on the way home same problem. had to put the car in neutral several time and restart to get the car to run. limped it home and had mechanic friend look at it and he said it was fuel filter (i replaced it) car started drove down the street for test drive turned right car stalled and died... limped home. replaced fuel pump. there is a sound like there is a vacuum leak but cannot get car running long enough to find leak. the fuses are all ok except when you pull the fuse out you can tell there is a lot of current running to them...check engine light on code p1701 any advise anyone please help

P01701 is a TPS code. Unplug the TPS. If that's the problem it should at least idle and let you drive it (slowly) down the road.

Initially, I had the feeling you were describing collapsed catalytic converter symptoms, which is common in older Santa Fes.

You didn't tell us what motor you have.

2.4 4cyl. I was told that the code was a false code. It's not throwing that code out anymore. I had to replace the battery and since then it's not throwing out that code. My friend hooked it up to his reader and the rollover/ inertia switch was not putting out any reading and he told me to replace it.so I ordered a new one and it will be here in two days. Could a faulty switch/sensor or one going out be the reason my car will not run? I live in the desert and am driving down dirt road everyday and so I don't know if a wire could have gotten loose. I'm just learning about my car and so any help or advise is much appreciated. I have had a lot of friends tell me they will help me trouble shoot my problem but plans always seem to fall through so that's why I'm turning to this forum. Thanks again for any help

Do like I'm telling you. Unplug the TPS, you'll know right away if that's the problem or not. Replacing it will sometimes not work because it could be a bad wiring harness. When you unplug it, the computer senses it's totally dead and uses default values, which will allow it to run smooth anyways. Rule out the TPS that way.

Collapsed catalytic converter is my guess as to what your lack of power and stalling problem is. It clogs the exhaust. Happens a lot to the 2.4 because it's a little engine powering a big car, so people tend to fry the cat because they have to gun the motor hard.
