Default pause in shifting from 1st to 2nd with squeal between

I am hearing a slight squeal along with a slight pause between first and second gear. It only happens if I accelerate harder than usual. The tranny fluid was flushed and filled about 10k ago and fluid evel and is still good. It's a 2002 2.7l fwd with 223,256 miles. Also if anyone can suggest good tires to go with, I made the mistake and put firestone destination le's on it about 3 years ago and they are quite loud, so I am in the market for some new treads.
Thanks....

Are you sure it isn't from the engine? I'm not saying it couldn't be the tranny, I personally don't know what could be squealing from there.... What ever it is, it can't be cheap.

As far as the tires go, I would hands down recommend the BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A Tours. They are a revamped version of the Stock ones back in '02. (I have the same Santa Fe as you.... Just with less than 100K on it....) The new ones are SO much quieter, and they also have decent grip on wet pavement. That being said, I love the tire. I think they run about $120-130 a pop though... Just my two cents.

It kind of sounds like a belt squeal or chirp, almost like a quiet blow off valve on a turbo only inbetween first and second gear.

When was the last time you put on a new belt? It could very well be the belt slipping when it shifts from 1st to 2nd. That is (on our car) the biggest drop in RPM from gear to gear.
