Power Window On Drivers Side

Hi

I just returned from a trip and before i left i put my car in a parking lot where i payed for it to be waxed and washed and full sirvice and all that. I have a Sonata 2002 and when i got back i pop the trunk open put all my stuff in open the drivers door get in close the door and the driver side window falls in to the door. Well i try to close it but all i hear is some sound in the door and the window doesnt move at all so i had to stick a screwdriver in the door to hold it. Opened the door took the whole thing apart just to see that the wire that pulls the window up and down is cut in to half but the mechanisam that holds the window is still ok i think and i hear the motor turning when i try to close or open.

[b]I would just like to know if replacing that wire is possible or do i have to replace the whole mechanisam for the window and if possible does anyone have any instructions how to do this.

I guess i will spend my day off tomorrow going to securitas and trying to charge them for the repair since when i left the car was in good condition and it all worked fine. Any help would be good thanks in advance

Well I can tell you that I've got the same problem.. Although mine happened cause I locked the keys in the car and squeezed my arm through the small window opening to unlock the door... it still worked fine till the next day when it stopped going back up.... That was last week, now the front window is doing it and I never even touched it! Anyways, the window motor can be detached from the cable dohicky I'm just having trouble finding out what its technical term is.. regulator(which I dont think is right) or window lift gear kit... If you find out what its called let me know....

i just had this happen to me and after pulling the door apart and doing some homework, the pulley system with the cable that cranks the window up and down is called the regulator.

the junkyards near me dont have one and the auto parts stores dont carry them at all. the dealership telle me that it is 85 plus tax for just the regulator.

since my problem is on the rear passenger side, im not going to bother spending that money; i would like to just prop it up. anybody have ideas, cause ive never done this...

Does anyone know how to fix this? I've got the same problem except my cable doesn't seem to be broken.

If someone could tell me how to get the pulley off i think i could fix it. Thanks!

Dear wonder,

The only two defects you can fix on the regulator are needs grease and cable jumped off the track/pulley. The nylon pulley is not replaceable and the guide the holds the cable on the pulley is not replaceable. You have to replace the whole regulator assembly. As the guide wears out, you will have problems with the cable jumping off the pulley. Eventually, you must replace as the 'jumping off track" becomes unbearable.

I had the same problem with my rear drivers side window. The plastic pulley wheel snapped, so there was nothing holding the window open. My best solution was a medium length bungee cord. I removed the door panel (not that difficult), hooked one of the hooks under the glass pane, and ran the other hook around the interior roof handle. Held it open just fine, and it was unnoticeable from the outside that it was broken.

But, since I carry passengers in my car frequently, this had to be fixed, so I ordered a used regulator. I highly recommend it compared to the dealership, as the used only set me back 60 bucks.

I need some information. My wife drives a 2003 Sonata. The drivers power window will not go all the way down, stopping about 3 inches too soon. I tried it holding the switch & using the auto down. Results the same. The window just stops. It does not try to further, the motor just stops. Every thing sounds normal & works like always except the last 3 inches.

I read the other threads about window problems & didn't find one about not going down all the way.
Any ideas? I will take it apart but want to know what to look for first.
The other posts were advising to replace the whole regulator for their problems.

I plan to ask the dealer what their thoughts before I would take it in.
I am handy but have my limits.

Thanks in advance for any info.

pull off the door panel, inside the door you will find a foam block that fell into the door. you can just throw it away, or glue it back on the panel.

I took the door panel off & what did I find? A foam block below the window keeping it from going down all the way!
