I have a 2000 Sonata and the engine cuts out on accelaration, sometimes I feel it on the open highway. I have had it in for repair several times to be checked but never find anything. Plugs , wires, timing belt, crank sensor but no luck. I like this car but can't send my wife and kids out in it for fear of it stalling in a busy intersection. Any help

A lot of times a clogged fuel filter will cause this. At slower speeds or when not accelerating too hard it can manage to get enough fuel through to satisfy that. But under hard acceleration or during sustained high speeds it can't flow enough fuel to meet the engine's demand.

Of course it could be something completely different but this is the first thing that pops into my head, especially with them already checking the items you mentioned.

My wife has been having a similar problem in her car. We've taken it to a good mechanic a couple of times and the problem seems to continue. It doesn't seem to be a plug problem but I don't know.

cromepony: We were having a similar problem originally but my mechanic found that it seemed to be a Mass Air Flow Sensor that was screwing up. We got it fixed and it no longer dies on us but we are still having some other difficulties with rough idle and take off. Like I said before I don't think mine has to do with the plugs, I'm guessing its probably the fuel filter.

Does anybody know how to clean the fuel filter or how I could even get to it?
