Default Stalling problem

Hello. I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 liter auto with 104k miles. For the past month or two, the car has been stalling at idle when at a stop or at a near stop (slowly coasting with foot off the gas pedal). I have noticed that it has the tendency to do this within the first 5 to 10 minutes of driving after the car has been started with a cold engine. The rpm will drop to 500 or so and then the engine stalls. I put the car in park and it starts right back up. There is no check engine light, and all codes check out. I took the car to an independently owned mechanic shop and they could not mimic the stalling (of course) and could not adequately diagnose the problem. I then took it to a Hyunda dealer, and the Hyundai mechanics there said the same thing! The only thing they recommended was that there might be a problem with the catalytic convertor or O2 sensor, however, again there's no check engine light. I had the fuel system cleaned by the first mechanic. I have replaced the idle air control valve, myself, and have also cleaned the air intake manifold with carb cleaner. I have also tried Gumout fuel cleaner myself and used 93 octane gas.The battery is only a few months old, has been checked and is good. If anyone could give me some information or insight as to why or what may be causing this because it is irritating having to restart at busy intersections, it would be appreciated!
Thanks, James

Hi - I am experiencing the identical issues with my 2.4l sonata. I have replaced timing belt recently and had to replace auto transmission and now the car intermittently stalls and my mechanic/electrical guy cannot get any codes when he puts scanner on car. All reads normal. Did you get your car fixed? If you did - what did you do? Many thanks , John

Replace idle air control valve and be sure and include new gasket (seal) when replacing. The new idle air control part did not come with the seal. A faulty idle air control valve can cause the car to stall with no codes. A new idle air control valve with no gasket will cause the car to stall with an iac high rpm code. I had experienced both these issues and since I replaced the iac with gasket 2 months ago, I have had no problems with stalling. knock on wood

Btw, a new idle air control valve costs around $100 and is pretty easy to replace yourself. You can save labor costs this way. It's accessible from under the hood and is located right below the air intake manifold. I found some videos on youtube that show how to clean or replace it. If you have trouble finding a gasket, I went to Autozone and they gave me a 3x5 paper gasket material for free, similar in texture to cardboard on back of a notepad. I traced the gasket material around the openings of the idle air control valve and cut the material to fit it.
