I posted this on another thread (referenced above):
"Mine was discovered by my Florida dealer in March of this year (52k miles on the ODO), as they were doing an inspection coincident with a service interval, I hadn't even noticed it until they pointed it out. I guess this varies from dealer to dealer... " This dealer was Gettel in Sarasota and the replacement was done under warranty. Evidently dealer concern does vary across a spectrum... |

I bought my 2008 Azera Limited in June of this year with 34,700 miles on it from a Toyota dealership. At the time, it too had a cracked dash pad. I immediately called the local Hyundai dealership and they agreed to order a replacement pad and call me to schedule the repair when it came in. After no calls for several months, I thought that I had been forgotten but last week, the service writer called to say that they had the pad since early July and asked if I still wanted it installed. Absolutely, I replied. The car went to the dealership Sunday evening and I just picked it up this morning.
My cracked dash pad was replaced under warranty (@ 48,000 miles) at Ideal Hyundai in Frederick, MD. It appears that the technician did an excellent job with the replacement. No squeaks, rattles or inoperative equipment noted as of yet. It's nice to look at the dash and not see the airbag outline any longer! ![]() Bill Hagerstown, MD |

My cracked dash didn't appear until after the warranty ran out. I have a 2008 with 132k and around 105k, while getting it serviced by a Hyundai dealer in Newport News, they pointed it out...along with an estimate since it's out of warranty. Not a pretty sight as it's nearly $2k to replace with labor. They admitted this is a defect that plagues many Hyundai models yet also stated it should be done since this defect could effect proper deployment of the airbag. I forwarded their estimate and comments to the CPSC for review since critical safety issues could be subject to a recall even after warranty.

I had an 2007 azera with the same problem, cracks around the airbags. The car was garaged with low mileage. The dash was replaced under warranty and had no issues. I bought a new 2011 azera limited and am very satisfied with it. Rich

Well, my number finally came up...always thought (rather, hoped) my '07 LTD was one of the select few that never experienced this...however comma just TODAY, with 153+K miles, noticed the 2 signature hairline cracks straddling the passenger dash airbag ...filed a report (as others have) with the NHTSA ...if you haven't (and have a cracked dash cover) please do as well. I filed my complaint on the basis that neither I nor Hyundai could prove that these cracks would still allow proper airbag deployment for all model years affected and for 5yrs/60K miles.
Still a good car (all things considered) IMHO. Cheers,

Here's my dashboard crack story to add to all the rest. 2006 Azera bought new 6 years ago that has 68,000 miles. The crack appeared a month ago. Because I'm past the 5 year warranty period, Hyundai won't budge on what the local dealership says is a $952 repair. Obviously from the number of reported cracks this is Hyundai's fault. But I guess they don't care about fairness or future sales.

The problem was a manufacturing problem above the area where the air bag is. They made the foam thinner to give the airbag head room it needed to fit its space. I had pointed this out during in warranty service visits and it got really bad after the warranty ran out and they were not going to fix it. but, then I raised hades and went to the dealer owner and she had it fixed with a new top. It came back perfect, no rattles and looks great.
I also had a problem with the passenger side seat belt tensioner I had reported as it would pull down and would not be loose while driving. Service Advisor said I was not pulling it down all the way first so I let it go as I usually do not sit on that side. Anyway, got an airbag light. Diagnostics pointed to that tensioner assy. They were going to charge me for it but I once again pointed out that it was reported during the car's first 60K miles. (service advisor turn over so did not have the man there that had been giving me the run around. Anyway, the dealer owner had it fixed for me no charge. She is a class act anyway. Overall the 2007 Azera has been an excellent car and a pleasure to drive. It has over 90K miles on it now. |

Has anyone let the crack be for an extended period of time? Just noticed it on mine (with 55K miles, but was imported to Canada from the US, so Hyundai Canada won't cover it as they consider it to have no warranty whatsoever), I got about a 2" crack on either side of the airbag. I'm just curious as to how bad it's going to get if I just leave it be....
