I hav looked at the link that Grinner posted for the Ottonavi unti, and I've downloaded the RRUI editor, but I'm not sure where to start!

GAH
GAH - that RRUI editor is only for RoadRover units with i9 or i10 Firmware. Neither of our models can use that. Our RoadRover unit is the older D2280 structure. The STF708 is a RoadRover knock-off. In theory, it should run the RoadRover software as the base WinCE platform is the same - but it may not. So, see if the info in this thread makes sense: XDA ceFFM thread

Hi Grinner,

Wow, what an interesting thread! I will try to get a good look at it this week sometime.

I'm sure you've seen the UI screens for the STF708, they're horrible, especially the radio and bluetooth ones! I'd just like to make them look a bit better if possible, preferably like the one I've attached!

Thanks for the link!

I understand, GAH. Look back at Polar' Dan's post here: #1070

You could try copying the update.exe file to your SD, then pointing your NAV software path at it instead of Primo, or whatever you use. When you press the Nav button, it should should stop the current running programs and bring up the WinCE desktop. From there, you can go into explorer and see you file structure, Flash drives, directories, UI files, etc..

If it doesn't work, you need something specific to you unit. Reset the NAV path back, then go Googling... email youe vendor, etc..

Default Fredly's Nav Unit issues (QL-STF708) - RESOLVED!

Once again thanx to all who tried their best to assist me, especially Grinner, in getting the Nav Unit working on my recently installed QL-STF708 from Qualir.

Can you believe it, it was a bad microSDcard!

Can’t say I have a lot of experience with SDcards, and I did re-format the card, successfully I might add, on my Windows 7 home PC and everything copied over and was readable fine.

But, the first thing Qualir Support suggested doing was trying it on a different microSDcard.

Bought another 4GB card, copied the software to it, installed and BOOM, everything worked lickety-split.

I tell you, this problem really had me frustrated/scratching my head, in additional to spending stupid amounts of time in the evening in the car.

Anyways, so far all is working great (3+ days now) and wanted to share my experience so others can reference my solution.

Take care all, Fred in Canada

PS: Now will someone please design/post a proper skin/UI for the STF708’s ridiculous interface.

Howdy all!

I'm curious if anyone has installed one of these units in the configuration I have. Just bought a 2008 Santa Fe Limited, North America (Arizona actually), the 6disc/XM with 10 speaker Infinity setup (not factory nav).

Grinner, I think it was you who had an '09 in North America and said that neither the 962 or 708 included harnesses would work. I'm wondering what version of the factory setup you had?

Needless to say I'm looking for a replacement and this seems to be the place to come! I've read through most all of the posts in this thread and I'm very impressed with what you've all done with these units!

I was leaning toward the STF962 but it appears that those are no longer available so the STF708 is next up for me. I'm about to head down and pull the dash apart to get pictures of my harness and all that but I thought a quick post would help too. Hoping to do this as a Christmas gift for the wife.

Thanks in advance!

actor, welcome.

I have the 2008 Limited which had the 6-disc XM Infinity amp and 10 speakers. I installed the equivalent of the STF962 (I got mine from cnbuynet for a lot less than they are now!). For my model, neither of the harnesses I received would fit my 2 plugs at all. If you have a late model 2008, I believe you may have the 3 plug set up. It that is true, the STF708 is plug and play, and I believe that there is a setting in the software to choose whether you have an external Amp or not. If so, it sends pre-amp voltage signals and doesn't use the internal amplifier.

In my case, I had to build my own harness, and found out beforehand that I had to hard wire the RCA connectors to get the pre-amp signals. I did that and the Infinity amp works great even though I didn't wire the sub-woofer pre-amp output. I let the amp do that and it does its job well.

The main advantage to the STF962 (we'll call it that even though it is the RoadRover C6208HS model) is that it is a name brand unit with quality components and allows Bluetooth / Phone address book communication. This isn't just copying your phone address book to the head unit, when you press the Dial button on the Bluetooth screen it fetches and refreshes the current made call list from your phone.

The RoadRover is also "skinnable" and software exists for a couple of different versions that work. Other than that, the features appear to be very similar.

Attached is a picture of the 2 harnesses that came with my unit. Neither of these fit my 2008 but you would have to look at yours.

HTH. Cheers.

Default Anyone have any experience with this model?

Been looking around and found this model and was wondering how it stacks up compared to the STF708. Looks like it has more power (65 watts/channel vs. 45 watts/ch) and a subwoofer connection. Anyone buy this or look into it at all?

Thanks for coming up with that, Schubi - I'll check it out.

I haven't been able to do much new work on anything - just swamped with other things right now...

I had seen that and it looks pretty good. Seems like it has the same specs as the 962 except no support for USB hard drive. Only other thing is that the "after" picture is obviously photoshopped... might want to verify that with them somehow.

I don't know if anyone has purchased that model - hopefully they will jump in... Good luck!
