Default Anyone tried steam cleaning?

There is a local outfit offering steam cleaning instead of traditional car washing (Eco Steam). Anyone tried this ? Is it safe ?

thanks,

Good day, on cars today with all sensors and electronic equipment it is not a favorable procedure.

Is this for inside the car or for the outside?

I would be real cautious of this. Think about it. Water boils at 212 deg and steam is much hotter. These new paints they use are not very tolerant. Think I would just wash it. And there is now a new flavor for the new year. Steam clean your car. LOL Or another better mouse trap!!!!!

Intuitively, I would think that the exceptionally high temperature in conjunction with soap would strip off just about any kind of decent wax job, leaving you only with the weak stuff the machine might throw on at the end of a wash. Until someone can confirm whether this is the case, I'm not gonna toss my hand wax into one of these sauna boxes!

Why do I cringe every time a new gimmick comes along with the word "Eco" in it?

Hard to imagine anyone in their right mind applying scalding hot steam to anything but carpets and hot dogs. Maybe posting a link would help clarify exactly what they're doing.

Easy enough to find... they seem to have franchises all over the place in N.A. and in the UK as well.

EcoSteam Car Clean

And speaking of carpets ... it looks like these are typically mobile operations with the 'steam making' in the truck.

Thanks canderson.

"No dangerous chemicals or high powered jet sprays
We are GREEN...less than 2 litres of water per car"

No dangerous chemicals or water jets... just hot scalding steam.

The GREEN claim strikes me as junk science/eco-hype. Not only because of the CAPS-ON format (which is so 2008 global warmist), but because it ignores the carbon footprint one creates when boiling water for trivial things like washing cars. How is boiling water better than letting a few extra litres of cold water pour over your car and then run down the sewer to rejoin the ecosystem?

Years ago when I was 16 I worked the high pressure steam gun at the car wash. The Customer asked me to hit that bird crap spot on his Caddy's trunk. The dumb kid that I was I burned the paint right off. He was less than pleased.
