Vehicle: 2011 Santa Fe 3.5L AWD
I posted in the thread down on this page that started out as someone elses oil light coming on when braking hard. Thought I'd start a new thread as I'm having an issue... Anyway, my problem was my oil light coming on at idle. Initially, it happened to my wife and she called me about it, and I attributed it to the cold weather and thick oil maybe not pumping properly when the vehicle was cold. After driving it myself, I realized this only seems to happen AFTER the vehicle has warmed up to operating temps. Took it to the dealership, they told me it was a bad oil pressure switch, put in a new one and off I went. (Note: oil was also changed at the dealership when they put in the new oil pressure switch) Here I am two days later with the same problem. Just about to work this morning and sure enough, the oil light came on again while stopped at a stoplight. Attached a picture below of my dash...the light flickers and comes on when the idle drops. I've never taken notice before, but what is the actual idle speed of the 3.5L? When the light is on, mine is about 500 rpm... Also, for those of you with a keen eye, note the distance travelled (238 kms) on my current tank of fuel. Cold weather + all short trips within city limits does not make for a happy Santa Fe. |

Just a little update....got it back from the dealer, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Light only stayed on one day when it was REALLY cold...
They checked the oil pressure, said it was fine. No leaks, so apparently I'm good to go. In the meantime I'll keep my eye on it and see if it pops up again. |

Thanks for the post. I have experienced the same issue this morning. I need to take it to the dealership. Do you have any updates as to why this "oil light" comes on? Have you fixed your problem?
Thanks! |

typical hyundai dealership ignoring the issue and sending you on your way. I went in under 1 year and 10K since I knew my santa fe was drifting/pulling slightly to the right enough to notice. Dealer had it in the shop for 2-3 test drives and NEVER hooked it up to their computer and told me nothing was out of spec on 2 test drives. I asked to see the computer printout to show within specs and then they told me no need waste of time. I demanded a test drive and they refused after over 1 hour of time wasted for nothing. Went to another hyundai dealer and they agreed off kilter a little and found was out of spec by just a tad as I knew according to the alignment machine readings. Got it back and tracked dead on again.
Morale of story: Some dealers are idiots and go to another dealer since this is an issue and that dealer chooses to ignore it. I sent a nasty email to all the sales and service mgrs. and head honcho of company who ignored my requests at 1st dealer telling them I went elsewhere and I was correct and they are wrong to refuse warranty work under warranty. NO response back at all and haven't been back since to that idiot dealer. I let them have it while I was in there and yelled at them and threw a fit over a simple alignment never done under warranty. The customers hopefully never go back there either since I yelled to them they are all idiots and don't honor the basic warranties and don't have a clue on customer service. When I know I am right and someone refuses to do what they are required to do, I let anyone have it and I don't stop until I get my way. I even filed a complaint to Hyundai corporate informing them that that dealer refused customer warranty work and had to go elsewhere to get a simple minor issue taken care of. |
