Default steering wheel control issues?

having a tough time finding the answer and have searched all over the forum.. if its here can someone send me that way?

after reading lots of threads ... purchased this radio for my wifes santa fe'..

HD Car DVD GPS Navigation Navi Radio Stereo for Hyundai Santa FE Santafe Elantra | eBay

then got this harness for it:

Best RADIO WIRING HARNESS - JCWhitney

followed the youtube video on the install and trim removal.. the guy was very helpful there..

it all hooked up real easy... went right in... all seemed well... but the dreaded "no steering wheel controls" issue is there.

that particular radio says its programmable but its smarter than me as i cant figure it out.. followed those directions till my eyes bleed and fingers go numb.. still no success.

so do any of you guru's know if its just not the right harness? or am i missing something else. NOTHING happens other than the word NULL pops up when im trying to follow the directions.

is this NULL as in its not getting any input from the steering wheel?

or is this NULL as in im doing it wrong?

thanks for anything you got to ad cause the wife is NOT happy.

Question should be moved to the proper topic, but for a quick answer, the red connector is the one who carries the signals to the SW controls, you may also hook up the usb port and audio port from the console through this red connector, i do not recall which pin numbers are needed but then again take a look at the thread Replacement Dvd/gps/tv/bluetooth Unit and you will find the answer!.

Also get a free account from hmaservice.com where you may also find proper cable pinouts for the radio and a lot of interesting stuff.

Cheers

thanks for the input!

thought this was in the right place... but would be happy if someone who could would move it where it goes..

ive read that thread several times from front to back.. but it still didnt give me the answer.

the PIN code that came with that radio said the code was 3368... & that opened that control panel on the radio.. but still didnt get it to work.

will go back and read that thread again and try to see what red wire your talking about.

thanks

Is there a connection on the back of the radio that says s/w or something that looks like a 3.5mm connection? Aftermarket radios use that for steering wheel controls. If it does have that you will need to buy an adapter.

Do not look for a red wire, what I meant from your link to the harness is that the red connector is the one that carries those signals take a look at the attached pic. Pins 5 and 6 from connector C2 (the middle set of pins from the big connector) carry the signal for the remote. Also try to post a pic from the back of the OEM Radio to see if we are on the same page!

Hope this helps
Cheers

thanks for your input!

i will get a pic of the factory radio back... its on the bench in the garage...

& a pic of the one thats IN the car now..

the radio i put in even comes up with the Hyundai screen when it turns on, straight out of the box..

in reading thru the big thread again (all 124 pages last nite) i keep finding something about a green/white wire carrying the signal... just needing to study this all up and get it right instead of taking the radio in and out a bunch of times...

another dumb question: if the euro harness doesnt have any problems with this radio as it seems to be in teh big thread.... couldnt i get a euro plug and work it backwards? or is that just making more work?

we love this car, but i guess it being a 2007 US version was a lot of change overs or something?

seems to be a lot of things that vary with it.
