Hi,
I have a 2012 GL Sport AWD and in the winter, I'm doing about 16L/100km. I do city 98% of the time and I live in a city with a lot of hills and slope. In the summer, I can do about 12-13L/100km. I'm now at 12200km on the SUV and it doesn't seems it will get better ![]() I always drive with Eco mode ON and I keep it with the ECO light on almost all the time. When I do highway, I can get about 9L/100 km if I set the cruise at 109km/h (the GPS says it's really 104km/h). Is this normal Gas consumption ?! I'll have that SUV for 6 more years and a half, I hope gas price won't go too much higher !! Luckily, I live at 35 min from the border, so instead of paying 1.29$/L, It's more 0.95$/L, saving about 20$ if I count the gas for going to US and get back here. |

If your speedo is truly off as indicated by your GPS, then you are recording about 5km high on your odometer for every 100km traveled. That would mean you are using more fuel than you think for the distance traveled. You should drive a section of interstate and check a 4 or 5 km run as indicated by the road markers and compare what you get on your odometer. Hate to see you lose almost 5% of your warranty.

pducharme, your gas mileage and usage almost mimics mine. I noticed my SF got worse on fuel when I switched to snow tires last month. Since that switch I have been about 15-16 L\100 KM. On a 830 KM highway trip last week I averaged 12.1 L\100KM. And that is by tracking fuel used by KM driven, not by using the on board computer.
Any my GPS shows the same difference yours does. When my GPS shows 100 KM\h, my speedometer shows 104 km\h. Happy New Year! |

Wait a minute... my GPS also shows the same 5km difference... I always thought the satellites couldn't keep up but now it is being mentioned here....
My fuel consumption is actually pretty darn good, I am averaging around 11L/100KM (21.38MPG) which includes city driving (50/60km) and back road driving (90/100km). Highway driving on a sunny summer day without the A/C 8.3L/100km but this is winter... Although none of my cars have ever been able to own up to the sticker I find this car to be pretty accurate although it is not 26MPG. I actually turned off that ECO light, it annoys me to no end that it goes off when I am stopped at a red light (that's just me)... |

I was wondering if there is a way, other than being lighter on the throttle to improve on gas mileage?
Does an K&N filter make any difference? Has anyone tried open source tuning on the 3.5L? Does a higher octane fuel make any difference? I am averaging about 14L/100km on my 2012 GL and would like to see those numbers improve. |

Experimenting with it down here in Pittsburgh I find that I get 2-3 mpg more with watching the eco light and my top speed. I've had up to 27 mpg with freeway driving over a long distance, but never went above 65 mph. Of course I was the slowest guy on the road, but wanted to see what the results would be. Around town if I use the light I get 21-22 mpg pretty routinely. If I don't watch the light then I get 18-20 mpg. So, basically I get a 10% increase around town, and a 20-25% increase in freeway driving, as long as I watch my top speed.

I test drove a 2012 Kia Sorento and thus learned about this feature: driving with ECO light ON to maximize mileage!
If you have an 07-09 SF Limited trim, or the trim level that allows for an instant display of gas consumption (in addition to Range, Average fuel consumption), this would give you an idea how ECO your driving is, IMO. I turns this feature ON when driving to monitor the instant "mileage" and try to keep it within 12, 13L/100 km by "playing" with the gas pedal, the same way I think you do with your 2012 SF model year watching the ECO light. After a while I can try to verify from the Average display to see if this comes down to the level I expect. That said, when I need to accelerate, I just do it! If you drive a SUV, expect to trade something for something, driving pleasure it is. I watched the mileage but don't get carried away with it. At least I am not burning premium gas, effectively a 12-15% saving already !
