In my case, defrost was not set. A/C kept turning to the "ON" position all by itself and I had to keep shutting it off physically with the "OFF" button. I have driven my car with the windows open for five years without the A/C turning on by itself. Something is wrong with this car. Unfortunately, I am beyond the warranty.

I, too, am reading my manual (Page 141) and my defrost button was not depressed at all. So I still have no clue as to why this is happening.

@MarilynM
Sorry to have interjected that into 'your' thread, Marilyn. Just needed to clarify that for the other user before we got to far astray. You'd made it clear that your problem is a bit different than that one (no defrost used), and I'm still scratching my head.

It's ok, I thought you were speaking regarding my situation. I may have my son shoot video while I drive the car and send it directly to Hyundai Corporation. Weird situation!

The same thing happens from time to time when I'm driving my 07 GLS. Pretty weird!

Point of clarification: "Defrost" in this context refers to the vents blowing on the windshield, or split between windshield and feet. This engages A/C automatically and is not to be confused with the rear window electric defroster, which does not.

This is not meant to insult anyone's intelligence... it's a common source of confusion in other online threads

Default Same problem

I have the same problem with my 2007 Santa Fe. Have you found any solutions for it?
