We had a similar issue that took them about six months a new service manager and mechanic to rectify. It was traced to a defective hanger bearing. Before they found it they replaced the transmission several wheel bearings and several wheel balances and alignments. We were also told that the transfer case was replaced among other things but the new service manager told me he believed we were told things that weren't true. No kidding. We got Hyundai Canada involved but as soon as they found out it was a used car we were treated like a second class citizen. The stealership makes way more on a used car but the corp. makes nothing. So have them check for a bad hanger bearing. Good luck and keep on them and don't go away. They didn't like us especially when I would chat up other customers while I was waiting. I think I chased off a couple of potential customers.

Center support for a drive shaft. Hyundai refers to the holder for this as a "Center Bearing Bracket" in their shop manual. See item #2.

Well that is certainly not a bearing you want to go bad on you. You could lose function of the entire rear axle if it totally went out.

The noise will usually get so bad before anything actually falls apart that you'd have it fixed before then! Just replaced one on a Jeep a couple of weeks ago that was groaning (if you could call it that) beyond belief.

I have obviously never had a problem with one since I didn't even know what it was, but that seems like a fairly easy diagnosis for a pro. How could Hyundai have missed an issue like that on multiple visits? That is very disappointing.

The 2nd last visit that the dealership thought it was a seized caliper, so they replaced the rear rotors and pads and lubed up the sliders...but unfortunately that didn't solve the issue.

I thought the original post referred to a humming noise in the front? If it is in the rear drive shaft, it is a separate problem?

As for dealership technical troubleshooting capability, perhaps the rate of change is so fast, and thus there is a reason for this forum
