Default If your vehicle whines it's probably the alternator bearing

Just ordered the new alternator from AdvanceAuto.

After using the discount codes and getting the core charge back the net cost will be about $82.

The old one still works but the whine from the bearing seems to be getting louder and the "Seat Belt" indicator light now stays on all the time.

I actually think I read here in a thread that someone had the same malady and the dealer told them the alternator was bad.

Time will tell.

Turned out to be the idler pulley making the noise......... so now I have that on order.

It's amazing the disparity in pricing on this stuff ....... You really need to shop around.

Yes, I just replaced my idler pulley as well for the same reason. To better isolate sound to a failing part, use a piece of hose or tubing and put one end against your ear. Point the other end towards the various components you think might be causing the noise. The one that's failing will be obvious. Took me all of 15 seconds to isolate the whine to the idler pulley.

The new part costs $32 from the dealer and can be changed out in 15 minutes. The new Hyundai part has been redesigned and looks a lot cheaper than the old part. I hope it holds up.

I replaced the belt as well - also a $32 part. I figure it's cheap insurance for a belt with 40K miles on it.

I'm replacing my idler pulley on my Veracruz today. Had bought one from NAPA, but after thinking better of it, bought a OEM one yesterday to use instead. I have 3 things to return to NAPA now, LOL.

Done. Took about an hour, but I move at a relaxed pace because, having two kids in diapers, time in my man cave (garage) is the only time I get to myself.
