Nice to hear that fixed it. I used to have a independant transmission shop do all the atf and filter changes on my old car (messy, have to drop the pan), I supplied the fluid, and was under $50. The fact I supplied my own atf ment that I always knew the correct and quaility of fluid was used. The next time your due for atf change supplying your own fluid would be something to concider after all this. Hopefully showing the reciepts to a manager at the shop that used the wrong atf will give you a refund, you have proof in the invoice from the dealer of the fact. At least no damage was done to your trans, the wrong atf must have been too thick for this car, hence the poor shifts when cold. Around 100k I will be due to change my manual atf, using the redline stuff other members had good results with.

Thumbs up Refund, Woo!

Just got off the phone with the district manager for the area Firestone shops. He's supposed to be overnighting me a check for a full refund based on my complaint. Didn't even ask for proof that I'd had the service done again.

Can't say much for Firestone's products (although I did like their Firehawk Indy 500 tires on my Probe) but their customer service is on top of things. I emailed them Monday night and got a call back on Wednesday mornning AND he apologized for not contacting me sooner!

Fantastic!

Now with the proper fluid, you don't have to worry about it for another 30k.

You know... the sad thing is I barely put 30K miles on my last car in the entire 12 years I owned it.

I've got a tracking number from Firestone on an overnight envelope from Ohio. Now just to see if what they and I think 'full refund' means match.

It was bad enough that I convinced my dealer to replace my transmission this past Spring. The new tranny is only a bit better, if at all.

At this point I'm just glad this is one small aspect of driving this car, and choose to believe it's just an annoyance, and not an indication of impending failure.
Just curious, how do you convince a dealer to replace your transmission? Just wondering because I'm having similar problem and wonder how you can convince a relucant dealer to replace the tranny.

I've sort of glazed over some details, and used the word "convinced" loosely. In truth:
I got the car used from my grandparents. The car was *just barely* outside the 5-year powertrain warranty. I was able to demonstrate the sloppy cold shifting to the Hyundai tech. They tried resetting the adaptive shift, and flushing the fluid, with no marked improvement.

Here's where I cheat a little: My brother-in-law is the dealership manager. I assume he made a few calls, and I soon found myself scheduled for good-will transmission replacement. (Technically out of warranty, so I paid labour -- still a decent chunk of change.)

So I guess I don't really have any useful advice, except that it's good to know that such a thing is possible, if you can get them to come around to your way of thinking. It might help that my dealer is in a remote area, and might have more of a small-town sensibility.

Just got my car back, they replaced the tranny. It was shifting too hard 1st to 2nd, and too rough in reverse. The new tranny is MUCH better. Very smooth take-off at stoplights, still a slight occasional jerk, which I'm guessing is normal.

Tranny went bad at 40k, but now I got a new one, with 20k left on my bumper-to-bumper to test out this new one. Previous owner leased the car, so they probably drove it sloppy which I'm guessing is what ruined the old one.
