I'm close to 20k now, and about to make a 2500 mile round trip next month, so that means I'm close to the time I need to change out my spark plugs, and probably change the coolant, cabin filter, and air filter at the same time. I was wondering if any other Accent owners have pics of the plug change? How hard is it to change plugs on these cars, and what covers do I need to remove? If anybody else is about to change their plugs on the Accent, can you post the pics of the job, so I know what to expect? I'm shocked that nobody posted anything in the Accent library about this topic.

You're going to change your spark plugs at 20k? I'm fairly certain they are good for about 60k miles. I'm at 45k and still on the stock factory plugs and wires. I might replace them with some NGK plugs and wires in 5k or 10k miles.

Accents don't have plug wires...
Changing them is really easy, take off the engine cover, undo the bolts that hold down the wire protector that crosses over the top of the coil packs. Doing this will allow you to move it out of the way to get at the 2 coil pack bolts obscured bye it.. Then undo the bolts that hold each plug coil pack, the coils just lift of with a a gentle tug. The plugs are str8 down in the hole.... I had to electric tape my socket to my extension, it kept popping off when id try to take the socket / extension of the plug after tightening the new ones in.....
I did mine at 25,000 mms, it likes the ngk V grooves

Well now, that's embarrassing. I've never taken a good look at the ignition system, guess I would have figured that out when I went to do the operation though.

According to the maintainance booklet, plugs should be changed at 15K according to the severe schedule.

As far as changing the plugs, it's really easy.

Accent still uses the inexpensive lawnmower plugs.. 30,000 is general interval for most maker..

Do yourself a favor and upgrade to either NGK Platinum at minuimum (60,000) , or the NGK IRIDIUM (95-105,000).

Just so you know, the manual states that you should not change the coolant until 60k the first time, and than every 30k thereafter. The cabin filter should be changed once a year. Mine was filthy after only 17k and 8 months.

Careful when changing the type of spark plugs you use. Follow the manufacturer requirement. You need to use the right heat range spark plugs for your engine.
Using the wrong type of spark plug can lead to carbon fouling (<450C too cold) or overheating (>800C - too hot). Both these condition cause premature failiure, hard start, misfire.

Iridum spark plugs aren't the best for all applications because they are more expensive.
A quick note on Iridium; they tend to last a long time (if used in proper heat range). Not having the requirement to change them, people tend to ignore them. The little buggers become nearly impossible to remove at 160KKm. It's always wise to unscrew and rescrew them every few 20KKm.

What you're saying makes sense, but the person you are quoting is a Hyundai technician lol
